RB - What part of what Jerry said about it do we not understand?

Jerry Jones: Drafting a RB 'not urgent' for Cowboys - NFL.com

"It's not urgent. It's not urgent in the draft," he said. "We don't have that as a must to come out of here with a running back. But my opinion is we could play with the running backs we've got right now and play well." -- Jerruh.

Tony Romo is where the money is invested. They will tell themselves his back is much better and WILL revert to 500 pass attempts and only 250-300 running plays, as has been the standard of previous years.

He thinks he has what he needs in the RB department.

We don't have a running back worth a shit right now. If they go into the year with McFadden bring the back that is expected to run the ball 20 times a game, they don't really care about building on what they did last year.

If that's the case, fuck them.

Besides last year, when have they EVER consistently featured a 20-tote running game in the last 15 years?

It ain't what they want to be. It ain't sexy.

I still think they want to run it, and will try to do exactly what they did last year.

But what if they're convinced it really is 100% the great OL and anyone can run behind it? I think they're wrong about that. And I'm not even the biggest Murray fan, but his toughness and reliability was key.

So I fear that if we get one or two OL injuries (where we've been unbelievably lucky health-wise the last couple of years) plus a back not as good as Murray, it could be back to Tony carrying the whole thing on his back again.

Who else thinks there's no way we don't trade up in the second for a back when one or two go off the board?

Yeah. Either that, or (less likely) moving up to get the first of the next tier. Have to find a reasonable trading partner in either case, though.

Every other team knows or suspects that the Cowboys are looking for an RB in round 2. There's a decent chance that there will be a little run on RBs before #60.

Well. If so it will be the first time we've ever seen Jerruh learn anything.

I think it's some of that, and simply that they don't want that identity of a bruising, running team. They pretty much HAD to go that route last year due to Tony's back.

IMO that's the plan anyway. Running the ball occasionally just to "keep the defense honest" meanwhile it's 500 dropbacks for Tony.

That's been their history, their identity, until last year.

I don't think the front office is that stupid, but they've surprised me before.

2013 1st round pick - Jonathan Cooper
2014 Free Agent - Jared Veldheer
2015 Free Agent - Mike Iupati
2016 1st round pick - D.J. Humphries

@toddarcher: Yesterday's best guess at No. 27 was Randy Gregory. I didn't think Byron Jones would be there. Today's best guess at No. 60 - Duke Johnson

He's been hurt. The local radio guys say the team expects him to be fully recovered this year and will start at right guard.

Hey cmd, I've missed it -- what do you think about Agholor? Not that he'll be bad, but it seems to me like kind of a meh pick for #20 overall.

I think he fits their system very well. He's going to be a problem on punt returns as well.

NFL Draft Day ‏@DraftCowboys 2m2 minutes ago

I did find out Cowboys had conversations with DET to jump up and snag Jones.

Cowboys didn’t discuss DE Randy Gregory at No. 27, but they did these two players
David Moore
Published: May 1, 2015 12:36 pm

There’s an assumption that the Cowboys choice at No. 27 came down to cornerback Byron Jones or defensive end Randy Gregory.

It didn’t.

Gregory’s acknowledged affinity for marijuana didn’t scare off the Cowboys. He wasn’t the top defensive end on the team’s board at that stage of the draft _ Kentucky’s Bud Dupree, who went No. 22 to Pittsburgh held that distinction _ but he was next in line.

Still, sources say Gregory wasn’t part of the discussion when the Cowboys were on the clock. Two linebackers _ UCLA’s Eric Kendricks and Mississippi State’s Benardrick McKinney _ were part of the conversation before club officials quickly decided on Jones.

“I would say there were two more players in consideration, although this one (Byron Jones) was quite a bit more appealing to us than the other two we were thinking about,’’ executive vice president Stephen Jones said.
