We tried it. He's a one trick pony in the pros.
Parsons is only useful if you have a good lead in the 4th quarter and you turn your front seven loose. close out the game. If you're behind teams just run right at him because he can't play the run. He can't do anything in coverage either.
I'm not sure if he was primarily moved to DE because we were hurting for pass rushers or because he sucked at MLB.
My gut tells me had he had more time at MLB he would have developed fine there because he played MLB really well at Penn State. He was a consensus top 10 pick with a couple people saying he should be the number 1 overall pick.
I think he didn't get to spend enough time at MLB. It's a position that requires smarts, not just skill. Typically the MLB is the QB of the defense.
Parsons has the size, speed and strength to excel there. IDK if he has the willpower to study film like Sean Lee did to be able to QB the defense. There wasn't a defensive coordinator or scheme that Lee didn't excel in. And that's because he put in the time in the film room. Injuries robbed him of a first ballot HOF career IMO.
So when we moved him to DE because of a need, and he was great, I think he developed a mindset of "all I want to do is get to the QB. That's how I'll make the most money".
I would say he isn't a weapon only in the 4th quarter. I would say his primary value comes when the team gets a lead and the other team has to throw. That could happen in the first quarter too. Actually, we've seen him wear down in the 4th and on one knee, gasping for air, when going up against Mialota.
How did the Eagles find Miolota?!
