You say that like they could afford to franchise him. They couldn't. He walked, but they didn't let him. They did everything they could to retain him, but because of their cap situation they were unable. Instead they're going to pay the shitty Danny Amendola nearly as much to be not as good.

We started the off season 20 million over the cap.

They could've done the same dumbshit restructuring to get under the cap that we did.

They chose not to.

They let him walk.

Are you really going to turn into the sbk92/Hostile types that become purposely obtuse instead of just admitting you're wrong?

Give me a fucking break.

And we could have done even more to get even further under the cap. You're just making idiotic blanket statements with nothing to back it up. Who would they have restructured? They already have tons of dead money in 30+ year olds like Brady and Wilfork and Mankins. The bottom line is Welker walked because they couldn't afford him. Your hypothetical world based on absolutely nothing notwithstanding, what actually happened was the Patriots made the best offer they could, and Welker walked.

If the Patriots hadn't offered him a deal that he rejected, you'd be right. They did, so you're wrong.

No?

Oh. Okay. So they let him walk.

We'll keep doing this all day I guess.

They couldn't afford to. Just as they couldn't afford to offer him more on their longer-term deal, sbkstile.

Yes they could've.

All they had to do was approach players under contract, and convert parts of their base salary into a bonus.

They chose not to.

They let him walk, instead.

And we're back to your fairy tale world where they had people lined up for restructurings.

I'm dealing in facts - what actually happened. Let me know when you want to do the same.

Do they carry 53 men on the roster like most NFL teams?

Yes?

Oh. Then they had guys willing to restructure.

It's a transparent transaction to the player, but creates immediate salary cap room for the team.

In fact, it's better than a transparent transaction for the player because it converts more UNGUARANTEED MONEY into GUARANTEED MONEY.

They elected not to do that and instead let Wes Welker walk.

But please... keep telling me how the Patriots couldn't afford to keep Welker at that 2 years 12 million that he signed in Denver and we'll ignore that they signed Amendola 31 mil for 5 years a few days later.

PS - retarded baseless opinions aren't facts

They signed Danny Amendola, the same player our hillbilly front office decided to release.

Crazy how he's no longer a member of their team when they made him an offer and he rejected it.

In midswat-land - that equals "let him walk".

LOL

Come with facts or don't come at all, hypothetical boy.

CAP STRAPPED PATRIOTS STRUGGLING IN FREE AGENCY STILL!!!

@AdamSchefter, Emmanuel Sanders signed a $2.5 million offer sheet. Should the Steelers match or get the Patriots' 3rd-rounder?

The franchise tag for wideouts was about 10.5 mil. For Welker, who had been franchised the year before, I believe the rule is 125% of the total? So you're looking at more than 13 million dollars.

Do I need to connect the dots for you or can you figure it out?

Now you're reduced to moving the goalposts.

You went from "THEY COULDN'T AFFORD HIM!!!" to.... well, yeah, they could've afforded it, but chose not too because it's too expensive.

A stance, mind you, that only supports my original point.

They had the cap room, but chose not to franchise him.

They let him walk.

It's not a matter if YOU or I think he's worth it.

It's a matter of what an intelligent front office decided.

The Patriots looked at Wes Welker - a guy who posts such pedestrian numbers as ONE HUNDRED AND FUCKING TWELVE receptions a year and said "Not worth it. Lets move on from the player."

Meanwhile... the dumbass Cowboys looked at Anthony Spencer - who averages like 6.7 sacks a year and decided MUST HAVE AT ALL COSTS!

Is Anthony Spencer worth the 11 mil a year he'll make as a Franchise Player?

No.

Yet we gave it to him.
