We'd probably be just as well served by having you tell us who you think the good/quality football players on this team are.
Hint- they weren't all first round picks
Why are moving the goal posts? Of course we have some quality football players. So does every other team in the NFL. But that wasn't the issue or the topic of discussion. So lets get back to your initial post which was in response to my comment about the "myth" of our improved drafting relative to the supposed depth on this team.
Its not atrocious everywhere. We appear to be quite deep on the DL and pretty good at LB. I think the CB situation is good even w/o Scandrick. We are deep at G on the OL and have a good situation at TE and RB. Our top 3 at WR are as good as any team's in football.
Where we are in trouble is backup QB, backup T and safety, unless they decide to move Byron Jones permanently to safety.
I'll ask again, how are we deep at DL? Since 2000, we've drafted Sean Lissimore (2010, 7th round), no DL in 2011, Crawford (2012, 3rd round), no DL in 2013, DLaw (2014, 2nd round), Gardener (2014, 7th round), Bishop (2014, 7th round), Gregory (2015, 2nd round), Ryan Russell (2015, 5th round).
We have Crawford, DLaw and Gregory in terms of draft picks that good give us solid reps. The guy that we're pinning some of our hopes on, Greg Hardy, was drafted in the 6th round of the 2010 draft, the same year we took Lissimore one round later and he's no longer here. Hayden, Bishop, Gardener, Terrell McClain, Ryan Russell and Jack Crawford round out the line. Can you honestly tell me that you see quality depth there? Other than Hardy, there's not an established guy in the mix unless you want to argue for Crawford and McClain.
Pretty good at LBer? We've got Lee from 2010, along with Bruce Carter (2011, 2nd round), Kyle Wilbur (2012, 4th round), Caleb McSurdy (2012, 7th round), DeVonte Holloman (2013, 6th round), Hitchens (2014, 4th round), Will Smith (2014, 7th round), Damien Wilson (2015, 4th round) and Mark Nzeocha (who???? 2015, 7th round). Besides Lee, the guy that brought some nasty to the LB core was a guy that lost his passion for the game. In other words, the one guy besides Lee that stood out at LB was a cast off. Hitchens is a decent back-up simply because of his versatility but he's far from a "wow" type player. The guy was one non-call away from being last season's goat. Jasper Brinkly has been passed arouond more than a call girl in Vegas and Andrew Gashkar was given a 2 year 5 million dollar contract to play special teams. I mean, where's the depth? Out of all the Lber's we've drafted, we needed to sign other team's late round cast-offs like Brinkly and Gashkar and a question mark in Ro McClain. The hell with depth....we don't even know who the starters are besides Lee.
As for tight ends and having a good situation there, can you honestly tell me that Escobar has been worth a 2nd round pick? And we decide to trade a 6th rounder next year to draft Swain something like 10 spots from the last pick in the draft? I mean, WTF?
