Uh, wtf?

Wow, that' s a new rule now? That don't make any sense, it was a textbook throw and beat the runner. That rule benefits the runner only lol... That rule just ruined the game!

Harper entered the day 0-for-11 at the plate through his first three games, & w/yesterday's historic performance, he erased any memory of his brief season-opening slump. It was the second three-homer game of his career & it led to a career-high six RBI. It was only a matter of time. 20240403_042256.jpg

Suárez's latest gem helped the Phillies win their seventh consecutive game to improve to 15-8. It is a mark the Phils have reached only three times in their first 23 games since 1995. Phillies starters have a 0.52 ERA during the winning streak.

MLB power rankings: Red-hot Philadelphia Phillies won't need a turnaround this year 1714407371810.png

Story by Gabe Lacques, USA TODAY

So, what happens if the Philadelphia Phillies are only now heating up? The Atlanta Braves would rather not ponder that question, certainly. The Phillies, who knocked NL East champion Atlanta out of the playoffs the past two years did so only after suffering through grim and discouraging Aprils.

The Phillies are closing out the month on a heater, winners of eight of their last 10, including a stirring sweep at San Diego. At 19-10, they're barely off Atlanta's major league-best 19-7 pace.

It's a stark contrast to 2022, when the Phillies were a .500 team after a month, and last year's 25-30 start that included significant struggles from new shortstop Trea Turner. Well, Turner is producing at an MVP clip already, and no club is getting better starting pitching.

Meanwhile....

Ranger Suarez Pitches His Way Into Phillies History With Win Over San Diego

Suarez joined the club of only seven players in Phillies history to pitch 30+ scoreless innings or more. His name will now be alongside Cliff Lee (who did it twice), Ken Heintzelman, Larry Andersen, and Hall of Famers Grover Cleveland Alexander (twice), Steve Carlton, and Robin Roberts. Quite the elite group to be associated with when all is said and done.

No other MLB fans in here?! Anyhoo, the Phils closed out their West Bonanza with a 7-3 record last night by defeating the Angels again, 2-1, & being the first team in the majors to reach 20 wins 2 nights ago. They finally have a night off!
