The qbs who run today are bigger stronger guys. The rules prohibit banging them like in the past. It's just not a thing anymore to sweat running a qb who can run.

Same fucking injury Alex Smith suffered in the pocket. Joe Thiesmann, not the ankle but yeah, same basic injury. They run this risk every time they take a snap.

Being stupid and running them all the time yeah, that's less than responsible. It's why you see Mahomes running less and less. You pick your shots. It's a more than acceptable risk. Same damn injury happens to rbs.

Your odds of injury increase dramatically if you're a running QB. It's not a hard concept. Sure an injury could happen in the pocket. But the risk is greater when you run on a designed play.

Dude... It used to be that way. It simply isnt true anymore. College teams running the wing-T - NO qb injuries. Several running qbs in the NFL right now. You don't see it happening. Four years and Dak never missed a snap due to injury. It's just not a thing anymore.

Plus you cant even hit the QB anymore. Shit, even if you stop your forward progression while going for a sack and dive out of the way at the last second and barely clip a QB you will get a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty nowadays

Being an NFL QB has never been safer. How often do you see a QB take a hit nowadays where you wonder if he’s ok or gonna get up?

Almost never. That used to happen regularly. Just ask Aikman.

Russell Wilson. Dak. Mahomey. Several others. Running isn't ever "safe" but neither is 40 dropbacks. Romo got hurt on runs, never.

I think it was Romo’s last injury (might not have been his last one, there were too many to keep straight) where he was running and got hit as he attempted/started to slide when he broke his back

He was rolling out, avoiding an a-gap rush. He planned to throw the ball away but got caught from behind by another defender. All behind the LoS and not at all a planned run. He was never injured beyond the LoS.

I just saw the highlight again.

Dak sits up and you can see his ankle is twisted. He then slams his foot onto the turf to try to put it back in place.

I didn’t notice that it was dislocated like that when it happened. So it was not only a compound fracture but a dislocation.

Nasty stuff

Running QB's run a greater risk. I mean, he injured it on a designed running play.

In any event, Dak not signing the contract is going to loom large. I'd bet he's beating himself up over it while lying in his hospital bed. No fucking good......

What about when a QB runs out the pocket to avoid the sack or trying to by the receiver more time...? Or make throws on the run? EVERY QB has and will do this. Does that make those QBs a running QB? Does thatg make them just a susceptible to this type of injury? Ridiculous.

Dalvin Cook came up lame pretty damn quick there. Not good for someone with his history of injury.

It was a compound fracture. Bone penetrating the skin. We couldn't see that through 10 layers of ankle tape.
