Not many picked up on this, but I find this quote from Stevie telling, and quite refreshing.

"I'll leave that for Mike to address". Maybe, just maybe they are finally getting it.

You gotta like the way this coach is handling his business and his staff. Kitna and Columbo were good names but their lack of experience didn't necessarily make them good coaches. McCarthy started at the bottom and earned his stripes and that is reflected in the staff he's hiring. He's not going to hire an assitant coach because of name recognition or that player was a fan favorite. Experience matters.

Yep, he's setting himself up for what he feels is best chance of success. Not going with status quo guys or guys "Jones boys are comfortable with"

We needed this kind of house cleaning. Gotta change the culture and finally move on from the country club environment where the priority was not hurting peoples feelings and having a good time.

I cant wait for free agency and draft, most excited I have been in a long time.

I was referring to the idea of free speech...the spirit of the intention, not so much the legal application of the enforcement.
Yeah I was just replying with the actual definition, recognizing freedom of speech doesn't exist on private property. For the benefit of other readers, as I also said.

It's hard not to get reinvested now, ain't it? Gol darnit.

I'll tell you guys something about a conversation I had with my son that he kind of fought me on and questioned. I told him we were going to see a completely different brand of football. A different style....a different attitude.....a different feel and flow to the game. He didn't understand what I was trying to say because he's never seen it from this team. He was 9 years old when Phillips took over and 12 when Garrett became the HC. He's seen nothing but the utter bullshit we've seen the past 13 years. Losing games we should have won and in improbable fashion. Bad coaching decisions. No adjustments. No accountability. No passion.

But that's all he'd seenin his young life and Cowboy's fan experience.....but this new coach knows what he's doing. The interview is a good one and he mentions words that every good leader uses: credibility and teaching. In my previous life, I was in a position where I was able to have a heavy influence in promoting people. The very first thing I would look at was credibility. The supervisor would have to come into his new unit and have instant credibility that he'd done that job, had success and knew what he was doing. And then he'd have to pass that knowledge onto his subordinates who would one day become supervisors and pass the baton (again). It's the cycle for real success if accountability matters.

People sniff out bullshit. They know if you got promoted because you kissed the bosses ass. It's one of the main reasons why Garrett failed and he will continue to fail at his profession. He didn't earn it and people know it. He lacks credibility and when you lack credibility, you can't lead people. They won't listen. They won't sacrifice. They won't learn the way they should. They'll hope and believe the path to promotion is your kiss ass path so players came to Dallas hoping to get rich more so than playing football and winning, which would lead to financial success as well. But why take that path when the man leading you didn't and he made it?

It's ugly. It's fucking ugly and I despised it when I saw it. It's why I despised Garrett. And it's why I like McCarthy. He's a completely different breed. He's a coach. He's bled coaching at every level for years. He's been held accountable and he'll do the same with others. I'm giddy.....

I have that collection, its awesome.
I bust it out and watch it sometimes, during the offseason. Particular favorite is that NFC title game against the 49ers, on our way to SB27.

Only gripe I have on it, it doesn't have any of our truly great games we wound up losing - like "the catch" game. People forget that 49ers team waxed us at home that same season, and we came into Candlestick and manhandled them physically. Beat 'em up. And were IN POSITION to win even after "the catch."

Paraphrasing, but love hearing that he's assembling a coaching staff that will work well TOGETHER and that there's going to be a focus on teaching. This team sux fundamentally and has for 13 or so seasons now (since the day Wade got hired).

Dodger in a post above alluded to losing games we should have won and losing many in just whacky, nonsensical ways. I think this is the crap we will see an end of now. I know we'll lose games, but I bet the days of losing in just the most mind numbingly stupid scenarios are gone. I also bet the days of blowing the most basic game management decision are gone.

Just imagine what the record of this team could have been the last 13 or 14 seasons had this been the case all along.

People that want to watch 4 quarters of near perfection should watch the 2nd half of the 92 Championship followed by the 1st half of the 93 Championship. The absolute epitome of what GREAT football looks like.

When Jimmy took that 4th down gamble and lost, it sure did make my butt pucker up. But then after giving up a 98 yard TD drive to make the score 24-20 we hit 'em with that slant to Alvin Harper and you could see the air go out of 'em, and out of the stadium too.

I was furious too. I didn't relax until James Washington picked off that ball. And Lin Elliott can go fuck himself.

I wasn't furious, I was just a little bit skeered.
Lin Elliott can go fuck himself.
Elliott missed one and had another blocked, but Cofer missed one as well. I wasn't sweating the kicking game in this one. Like Jimmy, I wanted touchdowns. Even with our great defense I felt like we would need them.

Wasn't it Ken Norton? Or was that earlier? We had 4 takeaways total as I recall.
