Quality Starter
They coach that, they don't want any overthrows. Overthrows cost you the yards you could have had. Overthrows cost you that down. They want the QB to underthrow the wide open man, make the receiver come back for the ball then "make a play" with YAC. It's much preferred to the ugly overthrow. It's pretty much universal.

That all said, cmd's observations were NOT true of Dak in 2016, and we all might remember I feared Ginger would fuck the kid up once he had a full offseason with him as the starter. It happened. Romo had all the same issues cmd saw in that feature. It's endemic to the coaching they both received. Neither guy is Aikman but I contend they both could have been, if not for the crap coaching and advice and yes, directives they received.

Watch some of his 2016 work. You will see him make each and every throw you want a pro QB to make. Everyone's forgotten that.
I remember posting a stat back in 2016 that showed Dak was the most accurate tight throw QB for the season

Like you said, he was accurate until Garrett got ahold of him.

Hopefully MM can unfuck everything the Garrett did to him

To me, the problem with teaching that shit is it rears its head at inappropriate times and you get terrible looking throws. SO much of passing a football is muscle memory. Well, if you teach that memory to fuck up throws at certain times because it's seen as advantageous, you also have it happen when it's not advantageous. When you don't want it and too often, when you CAN'T have it. It fucks up the brain. You're introducing THINKING into an equation that doesn't need it or warrant it.

Dude is streaking alone down the sidelines wide open? It's fucking BOMBS AWAY and you LEAD him, make him keep running to get under it! And you fucking PRACTICE THAT every damn day in order to enforce it in MUSCLE MEMORY and get deadly at it! When you teach throwing short in wide open situations, you fuck with the receiver's head and your QB's head, and you fuck up TIMING and never let those guys develop rhythms with each other.

It's why I never wanted the offensive skill players to participate in tip drills. You are literally, teaching your receivers NOT to catch the ball! Use SCRUBS or a trainer, or an assistant coach to be the tip guy! Not your receivers!

It's why Jimmy never wanted his teams to ever take their foot off the gas regardless of the score. If you teach guys to "back off" it'll happen unconsciously when it's not wanted!

80 percent of this game is in the head. When you fuck with the head, you screw up the player. KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID!

The QBs too! NO QBs should EVER be participating in tip drills! You're teaching him to make bad throws! You want him to intentionally throw high so your receivers can tip the ball! THINK about it! Pass accuracy is NOT something you can turn on and off just like most every other element of the game. Catching the fucking ball - you can't turn that on and off. If you make them do it in practice, then it will fucking happen in GAMES!

I can't tell you how many times in HS we had these idiotic and self defeating tip drills, and it made me sick to watch. When it was my fucking turn I would CATCH THE DAMN BALL! Coach jumping down my throat, I would say "coach, I want to learn to catch the ball not tip it." Laps motherfucker. I am running laps for the rest of practice. And know what? Later on when they are trying to actually catch the damn ball, these same idiot coaches are jumping down their throats for drops and bad passes! I shit you not. Then in games guess what? Lots of tipped passes by our guys because THAT IS WHAT YOU FUCKING TAUGHT THEM TO DO!

You play like you fucking practice! No matter the level.

Please remember that I'm okay with Dak, so this isn't me piling on or running with an agenda.

If you watched Cooper's catches they focused on in this show, you can't help but see that Dak is just not a consistently accurate passer. Cooper had to wait on balls, fall down to make catches. etc. Some of those were surefire TD passes if Dak could have placed them in the right spots.

It kind of explains those who defend Dak's accuracy issues with statistics. All of these plays Cooper made were catches so they'd qualify statistically as accurate, but they were far from actually being accurate. Hopefully, McCarthy makes this a focal point.

If you watch the games and see the WR's constantly having to adjust to his balls you should be able to admit to yourself, Dak is juts not a super accurate QB. The contests with Garrett on All or Nothing or when he lost to David Carrr on ESPN also validates that as well.
So now back to being serious.

I don't think anyone would dispute what you are saying, he is clearly not Troy Aikman, Dan Marino or Joe Montana when it comes to accuracy, timing and ball placement. But you can also run a highlight clip of a bunch of really outstanding throws he makes as well, throws that were placed in really good spots or hit receivers in stride. Not everything he throws requires receivers to re-adjust or wait on it.

He still has room to grow and for the first time in his career (in the NFL anyway) he is going to get really quality coaching, especially quality QB coaching. I do think he has a good chance to improve still, but if he doesn't then at least we know for sure going forward that he had a legit shot with the kind of coaching support he needs. he never had that with Garrett and the clown staff he had assembled.

The other thing with Prescott is you have to remember, you can nitpick some of the less than perfect throws but you also have to account for our receivers leading the league in dropped balls last year. Gallup struggled some (especially early in the year), Cooper was money after the trade for us but last year he reverted back to some of the inconsistencies that plagued him with the Raiders. Cobb dropped a number of easy ones, even Zeke dropped a few. Witten probably had more drops last yr than any year he's been in the league. It was a legit problem.

Cooper had to be one of the worst WR’s in the road last year. Especially late in the year, he completely disappeared.

people nitpick the shit out of him too, but he still had a year where he had his 2nd most receptions ever and set career highs for yards, tds and yds per catch. He's had 3 Probowl seasons in 5 seasons, he is a good player.

Numbers wise he did have a great year. Look at his numbers at home compared to his road numbers. Dude was garbage away from Dallas last year. Hopefully he can turn that around this season. And if not hopefully Gallup and Lamb can pick up the slack on the road.

largely the same unit as 2018 when they had the fewest drops, IMO it was about being in unusual situations with the ball coming from different angles, and quicker.

one of my concerns is that MM had an issue or at least was accused reigning in what Rodgers wanted to do, i.e. get mobile and extend plays … that is what Dak does well.

if they try to stick Dak in the pocket … IMO we'll see fewer big plays and more drops, but Lamb mitigates that quite a bit, great hands and YAC

And after MM left, they gave Rodgers what he wanted and his numbers went to shit compared to previous years.... AND THEN they drafted a QB #1. Almost like the Diva QB is the problem not the fired coach. He gets the HC fired, the GM leaves, and now the new regime already grooming the replacement.

This is what Ginger tried to do, more and more.

They got to the NFC Championship game with a rookie coach as soon as they replaced McCarthy.

Hilarious take though.

With the easiest schedule imaginable, then got absolutely destroyed vs San Fran. Worst team to make 13-3 in the history of the league.

All of that though beside the point. Rodgers had a shit year. After getting the coach that was supposedly holding him back, shitcanned.

he did?

2019 26 TDs / 4 INTs, 4,000y, 36 sacks … 13-3 record
2018 25 TDs / 2 INTs, 4,400y, 49 sacks … 4-7-1 record (with MM) 2-0 (w/o MM)

since MM left GB they are 15-3 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs

English Cowboy

In the Rotation
MM had lost the plot a bit towards the end in Green Bay. His offense had become very unbalanced because he'd almost completely abandoned the run by 2018 (the team had only 333 rushing attempts that season despite averaging 5.0 yards per rush). He's said himself that he's learned from his mistakes during his year off and I'll take his word on that.

don't get me wrong about MM, I think he's a good coach
and I don't know the particulars of why he left GB, but IMO, he and Rodgers both went drama queen

that concerns me bevcause JJ can go drama queen real quick like
sooner or later MM will be the 5th SB winning coach to part ways with JJ, hoping for success in the meantime

moreover, I have more confidence in Dak's ability to execute than I have with the current or past brain trust
give him his due - he is very methodical with pre and post snap reads, some poor throws, but very few dumb passes
the kid will throw a duck here and there, but is more accurate than most and has a monster deep game

it ain't the O that concerns, it's the D, and potential drama

Yeah lets focus on that one year. Lets forget those other 8 or 9 under McCarthy.
