Well we made it through the ice storm part and still have power but apparently they are starting roving blackouts in Texas. I know they lost a lot of power generation capacity from all the refinery and chemical plants that have co-generation units that help feed the grid because the plants cannot run in temperatures like this.

This cold weather absolutely sucks. Everyone please INCREASE your carbon footprint to the max so we can make it warmer ASAP.

Just got this in the email from our local electric company...

Due to the widespread extreme cold across the Midwest, we are asking customers to conserve their energy use for the next 48 hours.

How you can help:
  • Lower thermostats to 68 degrees or below
  • Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances
  • Avoid the use of large appliances such as ovens and washing machines
  • Delay taking showers or baths until after 8 a.m.

The Southwest Power Pool, which manages the energy grid in South Dakota has directed members, including NorthWestern Energy, to ask customers to reduce their energy usage to help prevent the risk of more widespread and longer-lasting outages.

Small changes can make a big difference and it is going to take all of us working together to get through this.

For more information, please visit www.northwesternenergy.com.
