What an incredibly risky proposition. Imagine getting to Mars and finding out they can't produce enough methane for the return trip? That's assuming they could even survive the 6 month trip in the first place.

Before we talk about putting people on Mars we have a lot of preliminary exploration and fact finding to do.

Yes these are unmanned missions initially.

I think most people (if not 100%) who go ultimately know its a one way trip

I would not bet against Elon finally figuring out how to get past the Van Allen radiation belt.

It probably won't happen in our lifetime or Musk's. After 8 starship launches, starship struggles to stay in orbit. where the last two completely exploded. It's odd that he accomplished the hardest part the catch of a rocket. But Starship itself has serious design flaws. My guess 20 to 30 years away from Mars
