Saints are already short draft picks, they might not be willing to make a deal like this.

Completely forgot they don't have a 2nd.

Still though, if I'm the Saints I'm making that trade without thinking twice.

If we traded Spencer for just a third I'd feel like we got taken advantage of slightly.

Maybe we could get a late 2nd out of him from a team that feels they're close and lacks a defender like Spencer but I doubt it.

But given that we could clear up the $10 mil and acquire a draft pick that could net us a player at a more important position... Lets face it, while it would be nice to keep Spencer and we may be a stronger team with him, Kiffin's scheme doesn't require a stud to play that position. We'd be getting something when it seemed like we were almost gonna let him walk and receive nothing.

We could sign a capable vet at a much cheaper deal and get solid play out of him. Go OL/S in rounds one and two. Then with our two third rounders we could either go back to oline or grab a RB/WR... Possibly a DT.

Since when does Jerry make trades and not get taken advantage of? Oh that's right, never.

I like this better than an extension. I don't see how waiting another year makes him any easier to re-sign. The market just keeps going up and up every year.

what sucks is unless we know that we have a trade partner already for Spencer or we know that we are close to working out a cap friendly long-term deal, we seriously just handcuffed ourselves for Free Agency in 8 days. We won't be adding anyone to an 8-8 team except 6 draft picks. Yay?!?

Yes dbair, I know we can lift the tag and make him an UFA later, but that isn't a typical Jerry move.

What's worse is this FA period is shaping up to be heavy on the OL. And we won't get to take advantage of it at all because of our droolcup friendly FO.

I agree. It would be weird since Dallas hasn't had a top offense since 2007

Ayuh, this pretty much puts it in perspective.

I would think they made this move knowing 1) they are close to making a long term deal with him or 2) after talking to teams at the combine, have found a trade partner or two and know they can move him

If we could get value for him, I'd rather trade him then sign him longterm simply because it is still a bit of an unknown whether he'd be a fit at LDE (especially on run downs).

Spending money we do not have. Great plan. Jones's democrat party affiliation is showing.

Seriously? You are retarded.

As an aside, I hate franchising Spencer. Jerry did it because he has no idea what he is doing. He is retarded like you.

I can't wait until next year when Spencer kind of goes back to how he's always been. Unspectacular and people start making up shit about him having some other "role" / "job" / "responsibility" in order to justify the money they have spent.

It will be fun. He just had the best season of his career, likely the best season he will ever have, and Dallas couldn't help themselves.

Mickey said yesterday they did this because they are working out a long term deal with him and will allow him to work out a deal with other teams.

He also said vickers, conners and spears probably will be cut also.

Btw broaddus insisted spencer wouldn't be back because we can't afford him, free would be cut, Austin wouldn't be restructured and sensebaugh would be back.

Yeah Broaddus is proving to be a worthless follow.

He has good info during the week leading up to a game.

He generally knows the real status of injured players and knows somewhat how they are going to play the next game.

Other than that he is no different than any fan or blogger.
