If we can get solid role playing vets that keep us from taking players in the draft based on need then I think we should consider that a success.

Yep, 20 more years and we should finally be ready to compete.

We won't be ready to compete until this organization finally decides to make football a priority instead of marketing, making money, egos, and being "comfortable."

Everything else in the meantime is just theatrics.

Oh, unless we catch lightening in the bottle again and stay healthy, get MVP perdormances from two players, face 5 rookie or back up/third string QBs, and play the AFC South all in the same season again.

Come on. Don't be so dramatic. Our problems run a lot deeper than whether or not we're spending big in free agency. I think you know that.

I wish it stated how many would be franchised. No way the Panthers let Norman hit the market... or the Broncos with Miller.

They don't take the time. But you can lop off the first 15-20 on the list. Many will end up with their current team.

It's not being dramatic, this team hasn't sniffed a Super Bowl in 20 years.

As far as big spending, just building through the draft is like just counting on Social Security for retirement.

You can't really sit out the draft and every team participates in it. While you are building through the draft with your 7 picks a year, so is everyone else.

I wish Jerry Jones would stop being the GM right now. I wish Jason Garrett would take a Graduate Assistant job for Duke basketball. The only thing that will help this team compete soon is a healthy Romo AND an infusion of talent on defense.

Proven time and time and time again not to work.

Especially on a Garrett coached team.

I modified your original post to be more accurate and all encompassing

It kind of covers everything to do with Garret this way

STOP THE PERSONAL ATTACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahaha. Jobberone just warned one poster at the Zone to "stay on topic" when the poster criticized Garrett's coaching ability in a thread that criticizes Garrett's coaching ability in the Rant Zone meant to allow criticism of Garretts coaching ability.

But I digress.

Defensive tackle and DBs in FA. How often do rookie DBs or DTs really make an immediate impact. Need a year or two to catch up to the pro level generally IMO. Drafted DEs, LBs, WRs etc can have an immediate impact. Damon Harrison and Ian Williams (dump Hayden and everyone else supposedly at 1 tech and draft a big fat NTotf). Casey Hayward and Patrick Robinson.

By the way, Alshon Jeffrey runs a 4.48/40 and finds ways of shifting gears in a route to get open yet the criticism of him is at 4.48 he's really not that fast and will not outrun anyone. TWilly is somehow considered a speed threat at 4.50.

That's because it's only "our" coaching staff that call him or even consider him a speed threat

See thats where you've got me wrong. I never said don't add anyone in free agency. I've only said that I don't agree with throwing BIG money around to FAs. Like I said earlier, if the right guy happen to be there at the right price I'd be all for it.

My problem with FAs is pretty much the same problem Stephen Jones said the other day. Good players getting paid like great players, and average players getting paid like good players.

I'm just not comfortable with overspending on a bunch of average to good players.

If I was a GM in free agency I'd look for bargain deals, guys who can fill out my roster, and the right vets that could help some younger guys with their experience and leadership on 1 or 2 year deals even if the price is a little high. Then occasionally spend BIG on one or maybe two if I felt like I really needed that player or they were too good to pass up.

Our DC really ticks me off as regards Hayden. I think he must have a picture of Marinelli with a goat or something.
