Are we going to talk about the Alaska senate race? Right now the Democrat leads by about 600 votes. But no candidate got 50% of the vote so ranked choice voting will come into play. Remember, the Republican candidate is Dan Sullivan. There is an independent candidate also named Dan Sullivan on the ballot. There are accusations the Democrats ran the 2nd Dan Sullivan to pull votes away from the Republican Dan Sullivan. The independent Dan got about 3600 votes so far. There is also a second Republican on the ballot.
If ranked choice comes into play then second place votes will be added to first place votes. This is how Murkowski got elected again. She lost first place votes but got Democrats to vote for her as second choice so the conservative Republicans couldn't win. Her Republican opponent got the most first place votes but not 50% of the vote.
If the Republicans who voted for the second Republican candidate chose Dan Sullivan (R) as their second choice, then he will probably win because I doubt any of the Republicans would vote for the Democrat as their second choice. It is still going to be close because I bet the independent Dan Sullivan got all the Democrats 2nd place votes.
Democrats clearly tried to trick Alaska voters in this race. I don't know what is wrong with Alaskans that they would tolerate this, but hopefully, ranked choice bites Democrats in the ass.
