As more information comes in I am starting to get a better understanding of what happened.
First, it's a mid-term election in the 2nd term of an incumbent president. That is typically a very bad year for the party of the president.
Second, I read voter turnout was not substantially lower for Republicans than in the past. That means Republicans, in some part, voted Democrat. And that means some were very angry with Republicans when they voted. The good news is we can get those voters back and retake some of what we lost.
Third, we have to stop denying that the war with Iran was not an issue for voters. It was. The Country is tired of forever wars and the Iran war has all the appearances of another conflict with no end. I saw Mark Levin posted something saying Trump went to war because he was told that Iran was 10 days away from having 11 nuclear warheads. If this is true, the he should have told the American people and provided specific information. Then he could have bombed them to stop the production and ended it. Regime change is always a huge mistake and it gets messy. Regardless, it is an issue with voters.
Fourth, we need new party leadership. Republican election leadership was very weak this election. For example Elyse Stefanik who is very popular in NY was going to challenge Kathy Hochul in the governors race. But when she declared, some guy named Bruce Blakeman joined the race to run against Stefanik in the primaries. She dropped out because she didn't want to spend the money on a primary so Blakeman ran against Hochul, who is a total clown, and lost. Blakeman ran basically a silent campaign. In my district the guy who ran for the congressional seat didn't even campaign. I never heard of him until I got my sample ballot in the mail. While the Democrat was running TV ads and sending mailers to every household, the Republican was not heard from. How can you win with candidates like that? I have heard this same complaint from a number of friends in various states.
I think the 2028 election is still in play. We can and must win the presidency. But we cannot run a candidate who is not a fighter, does not stick to the issues that matter, does not take the election seriously or has personal baggage he brings with him into the election.
