I've stirred up a hornet's nest. This is a lot of fun for me :) I said reached for the position, not the player. Good OG are ALWAYS available in the 3rd round of every draft, every year. And Martin is a better OG than OT. So there is that.

He was benched because he couldn't cover. All players play nicked up. Claiborne wasn't injured to the point he couldn't play, it was just a nagging injury. It was well documented his confidence was shot. I think they need to play him more man, and he may regain his confidence. He is not a zone...

I had that opinion yesterday until Dallas traded up for Lawrence. Well hell, why didn't they take him in the first if they had him rated that highly? The reason: they wanted to trade back, but couldn't get the value they wanted. Martin wasn't in their plans originally, Lawrence in the late 1st...

Actually at G they are pretty close in quality. I am a huge life long ND fan, and I saw every one of Martin's games and I know him well. I think he is very solid, but unless Dallas plays him at OT, then they reached for his position without need. If he moves to RT, he will be very solid...

Really? He was the 6th pick of the draft, in which Dallas burned their 2nd rounder, and he was benched in favor of Scandrick because he basically sucked at one point. Sounds like a bust to me.

Also, tons of solid OG found in the third round, which means the Cowboys reached for Martin in the first round unless they move him to tackle very early in his career.

Claiborne. Carter. Arkin. Owusu-Ansah. Escobar. And yes the complete abortion of a draft in 2009 which would the backbone of your team right now, which is completely relevant to this discussion.

2014 Draft- 2nd rd pick #34 overall- DeMarcus Lawrence DE Boise St

6 of which have a very high probability of not making the team. And it has nothing to do with giving away a potential 3rd starter to add to those 8 additional picks.

I didn't post their records since he bought the team. I showed them the last 4 years. Stop rationalizing the recent bad draft choices, especially when you consider their best draft success has been with Jimmy and the Tuna having the right influence on the picks.

Mosley is a walk in starter, and many think Lee would be fine at WLB. In fact, he may get injured less while playing to his strengths there. Brooks is a true FS, which the Cowboys don't have anywhere on their roster. And Jernigan starts day 1 at 1-tech DT. While RDE is a huge need, losing a...

Look, the facts are that lower round picks bust much less than the later round picks. That means your chances are better on average. When you do what the Cowboys do every year, which is wasting good mid round selections to jump up in the draft, you end up 6-10 or 8-8 like they have.

Baltimore's picks so far in this draft: ILB CJ Mosley DT Timmy Jernigan S Terrence Brooks Would you rather have that draft than what we have now? All 3 would be starters in Dallas.

The Cowboys could have had Brooks, Jackson, Sutton, or Nix with their 3rd round pick. Very good value that they lost. And no, their 6 7th round picks together aren't going to make up for that loss.

Agree. This is because they take value every year, and therefore aren't in constant desperation every year reaching for players that fill gigantic holes on their roster.

It's a gamble. But if we look back in 2-3 years and he is averaging 8-10 sacks per year, then they will probably feel pretty good about the pick.

2014 Draft- 2nd rd pick #34 overall- DeMarcus Lawrence DE Boise St

I had a similar thought in the nfl draft thread. Giving up the 3 hurts. Though, he was the best speed rusher available and the Cowboys obviously thought they had a strong need there. If they had stayed at home, they probably could have picked up a couple of good DL in rounds 2-3. But, would they...
