The point that you fail to acknowledge is that they needlessly gave up another starter again that they didn't need to. And they still could have had their pass rusher, along with a bevy of starting guards who can be found in the middle rounds to help the OL. Hence the blinders comment. You are...

Another mediocre draft by the Cowboys

That year he admitted in the press conference to intentionally drafting backups and special teamers because they liked their talent level. So we agree on the fact they suck at drafting and talent evaluation, at least. This can change but Jerry has to allow football people to make the decisions.

These picks are not mutually exclusive. Why are you acting like they are? I am pointing out the type of players smart teams draft instead of FA LBs in the fourth like we pick. It's one thing to support a team, but it's another to wear blinders. You are almost as bad as Mickey.

Another mediocre draft by the Cowboys

So, the way to fix this is to change the draft philosophy by finding value at every pick like the winning teams do.

Detroit picked up DT Caraun Reid, which is a player the Cowboys could have used. Philadelphia picked up S Ed Reynolds, a FS type which is good value in this round. Yet another player the Cowboys could have used at a position of need.

Another mediocre draft by the Cowboys

Your argument shows EXACTLY why the Cowboys are mediocre. They suck at draft so much that we can count on them to only find two quality players in a draft. Thanks for making my point for me. LOL

Another mediocre draft by the Cowboys

We could have had the same player in the first, plus two more (possibly 3) starters. MEDIOCRE By the way, Todd Archer reporting that the Cowboys had Lawrence as one of only 20 players with a first round grade. So if they took him at 16, it would not have been a reach...

Another mediocre draft by the Cowboys

How about this percentage. 40% good picks, 40% aborted picks, and 20% decent value backup pick The missing third and stupid 4th are the 40%, in case you were wondering. That's a more accurate assessment, given the picks this team was granted in this draft.

We don't need starters with our talent. Just backups and special teamers after the second round. We are just that good.

Minnesota picks up David Yankey in the 5th. He isn't an All-Pro, but he likely starts early and has a very solid career. That was a value pick in this round and shows you can get solid quality guards on day 3 of the draft.

David Moore saying that in recent drafts, Cowboys haven't taken more than one player at the same position group more than once, at LB. So when that player doesn't hit, then there isn't anyone else to fill the gap from the draft. The Ticket analysts are discussing that sometimes you have to...

Another mediocre draft by the Cowboys

Martin and Lawrence start. Hitchens is a special teamer who may get some play at WLB as a rotation player. Devin Street is a backup but a good value pick in the 5th. And no DT at all in this draft yet, so apparently we are set with McClain and Kearse playing the 1-tech position. That is...

I actually kindof like the pick. There is good value at WR in this draft, and the Cowboys might have picked a guy up that can play on the outside. He won't start, of course, but may become a valuable contributor in the event of an injury.

Agree. Martin was a consolation they didn't want as much, however, considering their mad attempt to trade down. Hence Stephen Jones slamming the phone down right before they announced Martin.

Good night everyone, see you tomorrow. Here's hoping they get at least one more starter on Saturday.

Every analyst locally is saying the same thing. They wanted to trade down after Barr, Shazier, and Donald were gone. But they didn't feel like they had the value. Given their trade today, I beg to differ. This is a deep draft and they could have picked up 3-4 starters instead of 2. Simple logic.

    *** 2014 NFL Draft thread ***

No my logic is sound. I know Martin. He was one of the best players on my favorite college team. I have said he could be a pro-bowl guard in a few years, but is most likely a slightly above average tackle. He has great intangibles, solid smarts, and good footwork. But he is smallish, does not...

I pretty much agree with this, considering the 1st round in isolation. But after witnessing what we did today, then you can easily think up several scenarios where they get their favorite, Lawrence, while keeping their 2nd and 3rd and picking up 3 total starters. I would give up Martin for...

The wanted to trade back, which was obvious by their behavior in the draft room. The analysts on the radio are saying the same thing. Martin is a nice fallback, but once Barr was gone, they wanted to trade back and pick up Lawrence in the later 1st while getting another pick. It was a better...
