Prescott's dubious record v the Packers continues. 1 win in his career vs a bunch of losses and one tie where neither team played any defense.
It was a true shitshow in every way possible last night. A curb-stomping that was NOWHERE near as close as the scoreboard showed. GB should have won by 30+ and easily could have if not for a plethora of drops (including no fewer than 3 perfectly thrown TDs that were dropped) and penalties.
1) The team was completely unprepared and outcoached in every sense last night. Horrendous offensive game plan and zero adjustments after HT. Stale, completely unimaginative playcalling and route designs. No run game to speak off, despite Schottenheimer claiming they had the run game issues addressed and would be vastly improved with their "plan" for last night. He's 100% proven he was the wrong guy for the job and he should be let go today, but won't be because Jones is an idiot.
2) Prescott was bad v Tampa, but he was fucking dreadful last night. Looked completely shaken almost from the opening snap and threw the ball like total shit. Could have easily had 4 or 5 picks. Had that confused, deer in the headlights look the entire night. OL wasnt great but for the 2nd straight week the QB, team and coaching staff looked like they had never seen a blitz in their entire life. GB took what Tampa did and just ran it on "repeat" all game long and we couldnt do anything about it. Several reporters/commentary people on the internet noted both those Tampa and GB went back and looked at Brian Flores/Vikings game vs us at the end of last yr and just copied it.
3) Do not understand them ignoring the middle of the field for a second consecutive game. Almost no routes between the hashes and just constant throws to the sidelines. Not much tried deep at all. Reminded me of the retard Chan Gailey system in 98 and 99. Middle appeared to be WIDE OPEN with how the Packers were running most of their coverages and pressure schemes and we just avoided it. They have 3 really, really good WR's, they shouldnt all be doing the "run to the tree and turn around" garbage we saw.
4) People will see the end result and think the defense was "improved" but it really wasnt. Dee Winters made the best play on a football we have seen all yr (maybe because its the only one lol) and IMO was robbed of the pick 6. And yeah GB didnt run the ball much on us (57 yds and 2.6 per carry) but they didnt need to. At one point GB was 9/10 on 3rd downs and converted a number of very long yardage 3rd downs (same as all other weeks so far) Guys were constantly wide open and while we did get 3 sacks we didnt force their QB into many bad throws. I bet GB players dropped a total of a half dozen balls (incl the noted 3 TDs) so the score could have been MUCH more lopsided.
5) They drafted Malachi Lawrence in the 1st rd to be an edge/pressure guy, but on a number of plays I saw him dropping into coverage. One play they rushed only 3 and Lawrence was chasing WR's 20-30 yds downfield in the endzone. To his credit he may have actually got a finger on that ball too, but it's just a stupidly run scheme to be doing this.
6) The more Parker coaches Caleb Downs, the less impact he will ever make. Nick Saban and Matt Patrica both raved about how good and how cerebral Downs was in complex, NFL style defenses at Alabama and Ohio State. The guy was one of the top defensive players in th country for 3 seasons, and Parker is ruining him here.
7) Why does Terence Steele continue to play? How many times can somebody just out and out whiff on a block (run or pass) and not be benched? He's awful.
8) Brevyn Spann-Ford started the game. Positive move. Made a couple nice catch/runs too. Positive. Jake Ferguturd still ended up with more snaps. Fucking stupid.
9) I'm sure the moron in charge won't do it, but this is a lost cause season and lost cost franchise. It's time for a vastly different approach to an offseason, and that starts by starting to proactively make calls and try to move what players you can NOW. Absorb cap hits while they have a ton of money and start a true rebuild next year with a new staff, as much draft capital as you can have and spend wisely in free agency. #1 move should be firing himself and finally hiring someone competent to run the FO but at a minimum he needs to be a seller instead of a buyer at this trade deadline. The sad thing is I have already seen comments from the Jones puppets in the media of "well they are right there in it to win the division". Be fucking honest, a 7-10 or 8-9 NFC East division title followed by a complete flop in the WC round does NOTHING and adds zero value to the team or fan enjoyment at all. Other than firing himself, the #1 must make move this offseason should be drafting Prescott's replacement. He's probably not tradable himself, but under no circumstances should he be extended again and they should just plan on him being gone completely in 2028.
10) I didn't really believe Jones would fire Schottenheimer this morning, even though it was 100% warranted. I still think the likely "fire" date if they do it in-season is after the Seattle game on Dec 7th. They have the bye week afterward and barring some major miracle the team will likely be 5-8 at absolute best, with games remaining at Rams, Jags, Giants and at Forekins. They'll be underdogs in at least 3 of those 4.
This is a sickening team to watch and last night should have been the last straw for me too, but I'm sure it wont be. I'll watch but also probably start tuning out games once the obvious result starts being displayed. I'll also make little effort to watch games live. Just no reason to.
