he gives me a Michael Irvin vibe in the way he elevates his team with his intensity and confidence backed up by a great work ethic and performance on the field.

The NFL isnt like the NBA in that one player can elevate a team to a championship but it feels like he'll make the team significantly better, still dont think that'll overcome the jones clan stanky culture but he gives the team the best shot to do so

so that means he'll probably have a season ending injury right about when they start to hit the home stretch

Wonder if he will get on the field Saturday. Was very much looking forward to seeing him. Same thing with Schoonmaker.

Just saw that apparently McCarthy is not going to have Turpin return any kicks or punts in the preseason, they want his focus on the WR position and also want to see others try to field kicks & punts.

I'd need to see how they perform before making a statement like "they are the achilles heel of the team".

Anybody's OL could be the achilles heel of a team if key guys get hurt. Nobody has a team with 5 proven starting quality guys behind the 5 expected starters.

That said, you didn't mention Chuma Edoga who's still young and has starting experience, and he could play T or G. They are supposedly liking what they've seen so far from TJ Bass, people are pretty high on rookie Asim Richards and fellow rookie Earl Bostick got one of the highest signing bonuses as a UDFA.They also have C Alec Lindstrom back for his 2nd yr and he showed pretty well last yr in preseason.

Right now the achilles heel of the team is more likely the PK position, until they make a move. I doubt either of these guys they have in camp now is the answer and there are too many close games in the NFL to have a PK that can't at least make most of the gimmees.
Agree with you on PK being a problem but make no mistake about it….. the depth on our offensive line as currently constructed is going to be a huge problem. I study my cowboys as much as you do and have done so for years. I am a realist. I strongly believe our cowboys should have taken a quality starting offensive lineman in the second round. I will continue to believe that until Schoonmaker and JJ prove me wrong. Unless MM and our new offensive line coach can work miracles with our second tier players I will continue to see this as a weak point or Achilles heel or whatever you want to call it. I do not want to be right on my assessment. I do believe they are scouring the market for upgrades on the offensive line as of my posting. There will be some cuts from other teams as the preseason progresses. I stand firm on my position that Josh Ball should have been gone yesterday.

Make no mistake

Our O-Line failures will be the death of us this season.
I seriously doubt the OL will be a failure unless there's a slew of injuries.

They need to get Martin worked out quickly (and sounded like Jerruh was somewhat softening his stance yesterday) and they obviously need the others to stay healthy. But the expected starting 5 is pretty damn good.

If Edoga is gone for the yr (or a significant amount of time) I strongly suspect we'll see another veteran or two added before week one.

Not sure why mustang continues to obsess over Josh Ball, he won't be here for the real games if he shows poorly in the preseason, and he definitely isnt going to be a starter here regardless.

And so it begins. Every year there is great optimism coming out of camp for every NFL team. Hopefully, the Cowboys make the right cuts.

I watched Michael Jackson play for Seattle last night and was reminded that we drafted him and cut him. Now he is supposedly a great player.

We also traded away Ward for nothing.

I know we can't keep them all. I just hope we make the right call on guys like Simi Fehoko who I think simply need a little more time.

Well see how the season goes, but I don't think anyone will be surprised if Dak Prescott isn't even considered a top 15 QB by the end of the season. I don't think I have ever seen more excuses made for a starting Cowboy QB than what i see made for Dak.

Jerry will probably pay him.

Will we be surprised if Justin Herbert sets Charger records this year under Kellen Moore?

Or if Trevor Lawrence emerges as the stud he was drafted to be? Justin Fields, Tua, or even Mac Jones? All these guys have a real chance to move past Dak in the QB rankings.

And there's plenty more.

So here is a thought. What if Zack Martin is stubborn? Would you trade him if you could get two number one picks? They both don't need to be next year.

Tunsil fetched two number ones.

Can we get better trading Martin? Of course not. But the "pay the man" philosophy, I believe, is one that bites teams in the ass.

Joe Burrow came awfully close to pulling it out. Imagine if the Rams had lost. Where would all of that spending have gotten them? There's a risk either way, but I prefer to be sensible in spending.

Martin signed his contract. Jerry is right. Martin made good money from day one. But, the jackass Jerry set the tone by "pay the man" philosophy with Zeke. So I can't blame Martin for trying. At least with Jaylon Smith, it could be argued that he lost money by being a second round pick (not that I buy it).

I'd say give Josh Ball a chance. I've seen so many players who for some reason, the fans won't give them a chance.

The second Ball was drafted the guys on DC.com started to trash him. "Oh, I hope he doesn't make the team. He has domestic violence in his background". The guy with the long hair who loves WRs said that. He's not on dc.com anymore.

I mean, some players take time. They get stuck and don't get enough snaps to improve. Ball is making a position switch as well as a side switch.

Those of us who remember the Great Wall should remember that many of those OL took a few years to find their groove.

Let's see what he does.

Like Connor Williams seemed to get trashed. But he's doing well for the Dolphins. I bet McGovern balls (no pun intended) with the Bills.

BTW, did I tell everyone that the Cowboys would prefer Tyler Smith at guard? I still believe that is his natural and better position. So hopefully we'll find a LT to replace Tyron.

But if worse comes to worse, it's nice to know Tyler can do it.

I'm an old man now, 59. I get a kick out of white people acting and talking as if they were raised in the ghetto. Just another sign of the apocalypse, LOL.

:lol

what'd you think about the Johnny Football documentary?

I haven't seen it. My neighbor, who is also an Aggie, told me about it. Overall, though, I think the Manziel saga is sad.

I think he was unfairly criticized by haters while in college and I think his personality was one of rebellion. So the more they criticized him, the more he adopted an "I don't care attitude".

I really believe Johnny had the talent to at least be better than Baker Mayfield. He could have made it in the NFL. Probably never would have been a John Elway or a Mahomes, but he could have been in roughly Dak's range. If he was willing to work and sacrifice for it.

But he never wanted to work. He just wanted to show up and "ball."

But, he's rich, so he doesn't give a shit. If he did, he would have begged to get one more shot the way Kaepernick did. Kap got a tryout with the Seahawks.

You heard the "Michael Jackson is great" stuff straight from the Seahawk announcers, who were horrible. He's had one yr as a starter in the league, has one career interception and has already been on 4 different teams.

Fehoko cant catch a cold, and that's why he will never amount to much.

Herbert is going to be sensational for the Chargers. Trevor Lawrence looks like a bonafide franchise QB. Both of them are already way ahead of Prescott in my book. The others you named I wouldnt even remotely consider taking ahead of Prescott.

The Martin thing is a real dilemma. Trading him is not a horrendous idea if you could get real value for him, but he'll be 33 and plays RG so there's almost no way you'd get enough to warrant doing it. Tunsil (whom you mention got two #1's) was a LT in his prime. Huge difference in value to a team.

The Rams were a fluke who have gotten nothing but bogus call after bogus call since they moved back to LA. The league had to justify the money they put into the stupid idea of moving them back there (people already dont give a shit and I bet in 2 more yrs they will struggle to even fill half that stadium) The Rams HAD to be relevant and the league did everything they could to help make it happen. They didnt deserve to win the Super Bowl they won, nor did they belong in the other one they got to.

In regards to Jaylon Smith, he did the highly honorable thing by playing in a bowl game that ultimately didnt matter. Then had a catastrophic leg injury that ruined him. He was clearly going to be a top-10 draft pick that yr (and my most accounts, likely a top-5 pick) so it had a huge impact on the money he made. He was an outstanding football player at ND.

33 isn't old for an OL. Martin offers flexibility as well. Martin is simply the better OL.

Regarding Fehoko. This is why I wrote that I think he only needs more time. More reps. Just because "he can't catch a cold" now doesn't mean he can't by midseason with enough reps. He has the tools.

Write to me after the season if the other guys I mentioned are not considered better than Dak--especially Tua (if he stays healthy). I wrote, by the end of the season.

You may not put those guys ahead of Dak now, but you very well may by the end of the season because Dak has flaws in his game that I think will show up over the course of the season if McCarthy can't cover them up. I am not convinced Dak will take to a West Coast offense that requires quick decision making and short area accuracy.

And, yes, I did hear it from the Seahawks announcers, but 3 points.

1. Even when he was in Detroit the Lions were impressed with him.

2. INTs aren't everything for a CB. Some of it has to do with who else is playing around you and if the DL is causing pressure.

3. Even though those announcers might be biased, as our announcers, announcers are not prone to use hyperbole only to have their own fans trash them (they like to keep their jobs). They are usually moderate in their descriptions to avoid embarrassment. And those announcers likely got it from Seahawks insiders. Just as our announcers do.

At least our cheerleaders are still hot! I know this: If that trans nonsense enters our cheerleading squad, I will be completely done with the NFL.

Enjoy the game...
