Sure did not. Context is key.

Nonsense. Money wasn't the issue, the checkbook was open. Dak's handlers didn't want a shorter deal than 5 years. It was all about positioning him for the even bigger payday down the road. Getting that one extra bite of the guaranteed moneypie.

If Jerry (and Stephen) were really sold on Dak they would have signed him. Money or years would not have been an issue. Can you name 1 player that Jerry wanted to keep and didn’t sign (when cap space was available)?

The last time a defense was this bad was when they were also coached by Nolan
But dude... We're breaking records of bad from the 40s and 50s now. Not just recent ones.

Pretty much all of them.

You can keep thinking that, but the fact of the matter is - they love him. They think he is by far the best QB in the league. There's no way they are letting him leave and there's no way they draft an obvious replacement. Health issues excepted of course. They'll deal, it's a negotiation. If they weren't really sold on him they would have let him walk and take the two 1st round compensatory picks for him.

Please give one example of it happening in the NFL. Really. 1989 Cowboys?

1988 Cowboys. They wanted Troy and I believe they tanked. We see teams tank every year. I believe the Raiders tanked before drafting Todd Marinovic. Green Bay also tried to take before the ‘89 draft. Several teams tried to tank before Payton Manning entered the draft. Tanking is not a new thing, and yes it does exist in spite of what you think.

So Jerry has failed to sign every player he wanted to keep? Again, is that what you’re saying?

1988 Cowboys.
LMAO. They fielded a really poor team that had been getting more poor by the year. Surprised you're not saying Schramm wanted to fire Landry, so he and our draft guru intentionally gave him terrible talent. They wanted Aikman, and somehow knew he was going to still be alive come draft day, and still be functional after his senior season at UCLA.

Wanted to be first to throw the dice in a crap shoot a year down the road.

I noticed you didn’t mention any of the other scenarios.

No man, can you not read for context at all? You asked:

"Can you name 1 player that Jerry wanted to keep and didn’t sign"

And hell yeah, he wants to keep ALL of them, because he falls in LOVE with them!

They're nonsense. That's why. You didn't even mention Gruden letting Mack go. You might almost have a case there.

But hey - Jimmy trading Hershel? Surely that was "tanking" no?

Jerry has resigned every player he really wanted to keep. Even if it meant mortgaging the future of the team. There is only 1 player he wanted to keep that he failed to sign that I can remember and that was Ken Norton Jr. You might even be able to include Tony Casillas. But even in those situations the Cowboys has younger players ready to take over. Other than that I can’t think of 1 player the Cowboys wanted to keep and failed to sign.

If they REALLY wanted Dak and were sold on him really being the QB of the future they would have signed him. They would have caved (like they always do with players they want to keep) when Wentz got paid. They would have signed Dak by now. They are clearly not 100% sold on him yet. Now him missing the rest of this season might convince them he is their guy but up to this season they are clearly not sold on him.

Thanks for pointing out another example of tanking for me. So you admit, tanking does happen.

Because with pretty much this same talent, we weren't all-time bad. We weren't breaking league records from the 40s bad.

300 page playbook they already know? Or a 1200 page one they don't know, written in a foreign language? Which one works without a training camp or a preseason?

Where have you been the last few years? We were ready to hang Marinelli. It was bad then too but no one was accountable. Now the players know their shit is starting to see the light and they can no longer hide. But let's not kid ourselves, our D has been atrocious for the past several years.

Putting aside the silliness of them even being able to evaluate QB talent, if they weren't sold on him they would have let him test the market.

They're wishy-washy and just want him on the cheap?

No. They love him and won't let him leave as long as he is physically good to go.

With the skill positions on this team being so good the best move would have been to hire Eberflus as the HC and then bring in a top level OC. We’re talking about Jerry though.
Hindsight 20/20. He keeps Kellen Moore, but let's Eberflus walk.

I don't get Jerry, when you consider that Jimmy Johnson was defensive guy.

Nothing I posted is an example of "tanking." There are idiots who believe it though.

I didn’t say they had given up on him. They were just not completely sold on him.

It's night and day between now and the past few years. Obviously. Nothing good, but nothing even near as bad as this.

There are also idiots who believe tanking doesn’t exist.
