One bizarre hire to report - Chan Gailey has been hired to be the Offensive Coordinator of the Miami Dolphins. Comes out of a three year retirement for the job. Worked with Fitzpatrick at the Jest.

Redskins hired ex-Raiders coach Jack Del Rio as defensive coordinator.

Del Rio spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons out of the league after he was fired following a three-year run as the Raiders' coach. He and Rivera have never coached together, and Rivers was reportedly eyeing Browns DC Steve Wilks first, but eventually moved to Del Rio. Rivera and Del Rio are a pair of strong voices and leaders to help try and pull the Redskins out of the current mess they've been in for years. It's unclear if the Skins will employ a man or zone scheme.

A Jets move if there's ever been one...



Jets signed K Brett Maher to a reserve/future contract.

Maher failed to find a new home after being waived by the Cowboys on Dec. 9, but he is now the only Jets kicker under contract. Sam Ficken was playing under a one-year deal in 2019. Ficken was not great, though he was more reliable than Maher.

One day after the Lions announced six assistant coaching changes, there now are two more: DC Paul Pasqualoni and OL coach Jeff Davidson are stepping away from football.

Browns requested permission to interview Eagles’ DC Jim Schwartz for their vacant HC job, per source. Browns slated to interview him, Vikings’ OC Kevin Stefanski and Patriots’ OC Josh McDaniels this week.

Before they hire a head coach, Browns now seeking GM candidates: they put in a request to interview Colts’ assistant GM Ed Dodds, sources tell @SethWickersham and me. FWIW, Dodds worked in Seattle WiFi Browns’ HC candidate Robert Saleh, now the 49ers’ DC.
