You went from "THEY COULDN'T AFFORD HIM!!!" to.... well, yeah, they could've afforded it, but chose not too because it's too expensive.

No, they couldn't do it because it was too expensive.

They offered what they could.

He walked.

And around, around, around we go!

True. It's just semantics at this point. Midswat wants to frame it the way it fits his argument. He might actually be right, but it's still just a guess. All we have is the reality of what happened - the Patriots made the best offer they could, or what they thought fair value was - and Welker rejected it in favor of Denver.

I just try to point out that almost every team with a successful, high dollar QB is in the same cap boat as us. They may be more or less successful, but they're having the same money problems we are. So it's time to stop pretending we're the only team that has to massage the cap every year to compete financially.

Yes they could have.

They could've afforded the franchise tag, but that wasn't even neccessary.

They chose not to sign him to a 2 year 12 million dollar deal. Then signed a younger Amendola to a 5 year 31 million dollar deal shortly after.

You've been talking out of your ass claiming cap woes for the team as the reason they had to let him go.

Completely false.

You want to continue to be an intentionally obtuse instead of conceding this point, then so be it. Thats on you. You're not convincing anyone. You're just making yourself look like an ass.

Some people just can't admit being wrong on the internet. It's such serious business, afterall. Wasn't a good look on sbk92. Wasn't a good look on Hostile. And it's not a good look on you, either.

To each their own though.

I'm not framing anything to fit any argument.

I'm stating undisputable facts.

The Patriots started the offseason with 18.6 million in cap space.

ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton noted that the Patriots project to have $18.6 million in cap space (link here), which would seem to set them up nicely as they build the roster.

Thats enough money to do anything they wanted with Welker.

You've been claiming they had no money and were forced to let him go.

Pure fucking bullshit.

That makes me feel even worse about our team. We were $10 million over the cap and went 8-8.

Comparing the two front offices is like comparing Bill Gates to a retard.

I dared one of the girls in my office to hold her breath while I scrolled back and could find the last time you posted something factually correct in this thread.

She's dead now.

Keep digging your hole. I'm content to let it rest.

oh good god with the jerry stuff and playing this game where you idiots think everyone loves jerry to pump up your internet personna.

I don't need Jerry to pimp up my "internet personna".

The Jerry stuff is real, because, well, he and what is becoming more and more evident each day, Goof Son are creating their own misery by their unwise decisions regarding giving contracts out like candy, even for minimal production.

The falcons had to cut clabo to try and get a deal done for ryan because there cap is so bad.

Let me know when we cut a good player to help with the cap and we can talk again.

All teams have cap issues unless you are being cheap. Honestly, the way things are, most teams that are not perennial losers are going to have issues.

Better run teams have cap issues. The Steelers have a big one. The Ravens were supposedly fricked a few months ago...today we see them signing people and improving their team.

But I can guarantee you they will emerge from their own self-inflicted hell better than this hillbilly family ever will.

It is about results, Theebs. I will take cap hell for being truly competitive. The Steelers can and will be better than Dallas as long as they have direction from the top that has focus....not some idiot like Jones who is at the mercy of whomever his dumb ass hires because he can't run a football team on his own. The Ravens organization with a real GM makes us look like a real embarrassment.

we actually have I believe its like 4.4 or 4.8 whatever.....We are going to get free and spears off the books june 1st and I would bet anything, unless we draft an end of course that they lock spencer into a long term deal and wipe that 10 million off the cap down to probably the 4 to 6 range this year.

So what? We already know they will flush Free's turd. It will still bubble up and Jerry will be rattling the handle for the next few years.

The bottom line on Winston is probably that he is not as good as the money he is asking for. He has been cut two years in a row and has gone on visits and has not been offered what he wants. Teams are not spending on a guy like him for whatever reason this offseason, maybe its the draft or maybe its just the teams who have money don't want to spend it there.

If Jones had the real clout to do what he wanted, he would have already signed the guy. He can't. And he's a strong willed guy who won't take nothing.
Also, it appears we have not talked to him. Again, its not about the latitude to do it, its about what do they think he is worth? especially 3 weeks before the draft where they could end up with fluker. It would be nuts if they gave Winston a 3 year deal and then on draft weekend end up with a chance to draft fluker in the first or armstead in the second.

:lol

I love how you assume that definitely, Fluker is there for the taking. Nevermind the Dolphins are linked to him if they can't trade up for Lane Johnson.

Its not about can't. Its about want.

Nope. It is far more can't than want.

A guy like Winston they could sign for sure.

There is no meeting of the minds here. Jones can't afford it, Winston won't accept the dregs we could reasonably offer. It is that simple.

Are you really going to turn into the sbk92/Hostile types that become purposely obtuse instead of just admitting you're wrong?

Give me a fucking break.

That appears to be the case.

I don't know what the hell happened to this guy, but he used to be a lot smarter.
