So the belief is that whomever might take Romo's place here now, would be in as bad a shape as Kitna was in 2011?

Neither guy was/is the answer. Questioning Kitna's brief tenure as starting QB is not an endorsement of Tony. Deep down, he's a loser who's comfortable playing for a loser. That's why he won't demand a trade or try his chances with free agency. Better to stay in Dallas and be rich and coddled.

That's a pretty stupid conclusion to reach.

Maybe he likes Dallas and wants to finish what he started here.

Of course he likes Dallas. He's about to be paid millions despite not winning anything of consequence. No real competition for the starting job, either.

as opposed to other franchises who pay their star QBs pennies and have 3 or 4 starting QBs waiting in the wings to "compete" each offseason

Every QB is pulling down $16 to $20 Mil? Hmmm. I seriously doubt that any team would pay Tony the kind of $ we're contemplating paying him.

as opposed to the take you have, which is Romo is the only possible way we could have success, even when a backup QB of lesser ability put up similar numbers as he did and led the team to several wins
I never said he was the only possible way we could have success... but even if I were to say that, it wouldn't be naive... this team's QB woes since Aikman left back that opinion up.

Those "woes" lasted a few seasons at most.

Compared to most franchises, our record of QB success is pretty damn good.

Meredith, Morton, Staubach, White, Aikman & Romo make up the majority of our franchise's existance. The Steve Pelluer's, Q Bongs and Vinny's arnt much of our history.

Hear that, guys? We were only bad at the QB position for a few years. That's all.

Some franchises have been looking for QB's forever

We've had really good to great play at QB most of our existance.

But go ahead and be a bassackwards twit and assume that Quincy Carter happened one time for a couple of years, and is bound to happen for the remainder of our time as a franchise if Romo isnt here.

Do you remember how Jerry tried to replace Aikman?

Did at any point, it appear as though he had any idea what he was doing?

Reaching for failed baseball prospect after failed baseball prospect...

Taking 4th round prospects (at best) in the 2nd round, despite his scouting staff warning him to stay away... etc

It has nothing to do with the history of the franchise, and everything to do with the way Jerry does shit.

Maybe, but the drafting has been improved the past few seasons. I think when they decide to finally invest a pretty signficant pick in a QB. the odds are decent we'll end up with a better one than someone like Carter or Mcgee this time.

A lot has changed since 12 years ago.

Franchise and front office has been a model for success since then.

The only thing that has changed since then is, Bill Parcells decided to come to town and shake things up. Adding core players during his tenure that have kept this team relatively relevant since his departure.

Well that isn't saying much. Matt Cassell is better than those guys, but we'd never want him.

And no matter how much better we've drafted the last three years (which we have), to get someone better than Romo, the odds say we need to be picking top 10 or so. I know everyone likes to point to Russell Wilson lately, but come on. Odds of getting a QB that good in the third are still incredibly long.

Or another guy some love, Andy Dalton. Yeah, he was a good pick for a second rounder. But he's still just above average. He'll never win anything. Do we really want a guy like that?

I strongly suspect we'll be using a 1st, 2nd or 3rd rd pick on a QB pretty soon. If Romo signs a new deal before the draft, maybe it wont be this year. But certainly in the not too distant future.

By the way of the 4 teams who were in the conference championship games, only one of them had a QB drafted in the first round.

And in case you forgot, the guy being deemed us unreplaceable here was undrafted.
