If Dak rehabs 100% then I expect Jeruh to make him a fair offer again like has in the past. That may be by matching his last offer or even by making an offer for the same overall value but with less guaranteed money because of the injury.

If Dak comes back at less than 100% or in any way has an issue with his ankle then I expect jeruh to be smart with his money and make him a reduced offer. If Dak’s injury ends up like Alex Smiths than I expect the same thing to happen to Dak. He will float around the team as a back up while he heals and hopefully gets back on the field one day, possibly never regaining his starting position.

It sad to say, but Dak bet on himself and he lost in the worst possible way

I feel for the kid and was the first one around here to jump on the Dak bandwagon. I wish him nothing but the best for him. But this is what happens when you play hardball. Sometimes you lose!

Good post Scot and I feel the same way. Fuck Dak's agents. I'd bet the offer on the table was fair and if the hold up was the extra year, well that's pretty dumb when you're the QB in Dallas. Money would have rolled in from outside endorsements left and right. Idiots.

Malpractice by his advisers for sure. All contracts we offered him guaranteed financial security. All were rebuffed.

He absolutely did get some very bad advice from his agent. It’s likely why the agency fired him.

I feel horrible for Dak. With that said though, it’s not like he’s destitute or anything. He’s still getting the $31M he’s guaranteed under the franchise tag, or to mention his endorsement money. He should still be set for life even if he never steps on a football field again. He also likely has a job waiting for him in the booth. I could see him being a commentator for College Football.

This is a quagmire for sure. Dak is done for the year. Tag him again next year? Will he be ready? I don't think you can sign him long term until you see how it affects him, both mentally and physically. Dak gambled early in the season last year and lost. He gambled again and didn't accept the long term offer and lost.

I think a lot of that is going to depend on how Dalton plays. This team is likely going to win the NFC East and get into the playoffs. If Dalton wins a playoff game do you resign him for $16M-$20M? Or franchise Dak again for $37M? Or do you give Dak the long term contract at $40M? If you’re getting the same results out of Dalton for $20M less per season, you kind of have to resign Dalton.

So Dak was the one holding the team back? We beat a fucking hapless Giants team with one of the worse offenses. And offense that averaged 11 points a game, and yet manage to put up three times that against the defense. The most points they scored all season was 16, and yet they doubled that against this defense, but yet it was Dak that was holding the team back?

I suspect that was sarcasm.

He did that already.

I think he realized at the very end of the negotiating period that his agents had fucked him, but it was too late.

Are you sure about that? I know Todd France was fired by CAA (he failed to close a few other deals besides Dak’s) but I don’t remember hearing that Dak fired him.

From what I remember the Cowboys leaked that the offer was $35M per/$100M guaranteed/5 yrs

He wanted the same money and guarantees but for 4 years not 5 years.

Yeah....just dumb. He would have been one of the highest paid QB's in the league and he could have made a shit ton more in endorsements. And the way the league and contracts are run now, had he been great (or even good), the Cowboys would have extended him prior to the end of his contract. It's what teams do with quality QB's. They don't let them hit the open market. It's really too bad for the kid.

That contract would have put him right in line with Russell Wilson. I also heard reports that one of the reasons the Jones’ were so upset with his agent is that they had verbally agreed to a contract prior to the 2019 season. Then after the first 3 games when Dak went off (against crappy teams) Dak’s agent re-negged and demanded more money. That’s when Stephen said they will just wait until the offseason to franchise him.

I remember hearing/reading the same thing about the agent(s) re-negging on their contract agreement. Dak was screwed but it's his fault too. But you also rely on your representation in these types of situations. Just horrible.....

I don't think he so much bet on himself alone, rather he may not have been willing to bet on JJ
I don't buy that. If Dak isn't willing to bet On Jeruh then he is not willing to remain a Cowboy. There has been zero indication of anything like that being the case from any source whatsoever.

that he didn't sign a more than market contract speaks

is there nothing that would give you pause before signing a long term deal with JJ?
*it's not a trick question*

and if you were more concerned about titles than money ... do you think JJ can deliver?

So Dak held out for what then exactly? If it wasn't money and he wanted titles, why not request a trade? And if Dak would have signed for 4 years, as opposed to 5, is that because the mathematical probability of winning a SB was greater if he signed for 4 years? Do you ever think how silly you sound and it makes no sense. Are you Joe Biden or something.

I think Dak is worth $30 Million for 5 years. I mean total... for 5 years...as the back-up QB for Dallas.

Tony Romo wanted but nothing to win, with a passion. And where did all that "want" get us??

I'd much rather have a QB that knew "how" to win, more than "wanting" to win.

I really wanted to get with the prettiest girl in HS. All my "want" didn't get me anything...

I’m not convinced Romo wanted to win “with a passion”. He seemed pretty content just being the QB of the Cowboys, he even said so.
