Draft Pick
I don't know if teams wouldn't give up two #1's. This is a league desperate for QB's. If Bradford is worth a #1 when he had proven to be an injury prone bust, Dak has to be worth at least that. I think he'll play out the year under the tag and then the team will make a decision then. But who knows how things will go.
Normally I think you would be right. I just think that there are actually a lot of QB’s in the market right now. Most teams already have a veteran QB they are paying or have a young guy they already like. The ones that don’t already have a QB are drafting high this year in a draft heavy in quality QB’s. The best chance would be to offer up Dak to the team that doesn’t get Tom Brady (Chargers or Bucs).

I really think Prescott is getting horrible advice and I'd bet I am not the only one who thinks that, and that others may have told him that.

This is a 4th rd pick that's had 2 pretty good years and 2 so-so years. Other than endorsements (which he got chances at because he was the starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys) he has not made any real money in this league. He walked away from 30+ million for the 2019 season, and now by many accounts is not willing to sign a 5yr deal worth 33+ mils or so per year, because his people want him to get a short term 3 or 4 year deal with a chance for a mega payout again. He may or may not play this year under the franchise tag and might choose to hold out. If he does he is sacrificing another 30+ million season (he'll get the prorated amount for how many ever games he plays once he does report) so basically he is walking away from 45 million or so, and possibly 50 million or so for not signing the deal he was offered last year.

He has the advantages of being in the state of Texas (no state income tax) and absolute mega endorsement deals if he continues to play at a decent level and the Cowboys are relevant. I really do believe he is getting shit advice.

According to your logic Jerry must not have thought Emmitt Smith was the real deal either in 1993 right?
Pretty sure Jerry knew Emmitt was the real deal what with coming off a Super Bowl and a rushing title I believe but I don't remember the hold up with him
I'm pretty sure he knows Dak ain't the real deal which is why he got tagged

And some of y’all think Dak ain’t gonna get paid?

GTFOH with that nonsense!
Its not a matter of getting getting paid its what he is going to get paid that I have an issue with.
Already having him tagged has locked up $15M we could have used somewhere else.

So we're in pretty new territory here with the tag. If a team can't negotiate with Dak, how will they give up two firsts? I'm wondering if anyone will sniff around and inquire about trading for him.
I have no problem moving on from Dak assuming this FO has a plan in place moving forward (i.e. use Cam or Winston as stop gaps and draft a QB)...now if we could get those 1rst round picks for him then we have major flexibility in the draft to move up and get us a young gun that is available

the agent knows jeri will fold like a cheap tent and Dak will get what he wants, just watch

I think Dak will be bagging groceries and suing his agent within 2 years.
You are out of your fucking mind

Pardon my French

Look at Ryan Tanehill, Teddy Bridgewater, Case Keenum, Marcus Mariota who were all signed in the last week

Dak has more wins since he entered the league than all of these QB’s. And these are just the shitty QB’s that were up for new contracts this season

And you think Dak is going be bagging groceries in 2 years?

That’s cute

Apparently the Cowboys have no interest in trading him. He just signed an exclusive franchise tag. That means they're not even willing to take 2 first rounders for him. Just when you thought Jerry couldn't get any dumber.

Unless you can guarantee whoever replaces him would be an upgrade (and you cant) then trading him for two 1st rounders is fucking stupid, especially if it's a team that might have only mid 1st rd picks or later to trade with.

I also haven't seen where he signed the tag paperwork yet, when did that happen?

Lastly, by doing what the Cowboys did (exclusive tag) they prevented some team pilfering him for far less value than the Cowboys believe he has (such as what I mentioned above). It doesn't mean however that he CANT be traded.

McCarthy wouldnt have taken the job here if he thought Prescott sucked and the Jones' were bound and determined to keep him no matter what. Regardless of what some seem to think, apparently McCarthy REALLY does believe Prescott can play and be effective.

Anywhere on the line.
Unless Dak hurts himself falling out of his Sleep Number Bed™ whilst reaching for his bowl of Chunky™ soup, he's going to get a shit ton of money and be the QB of the Dallas Cowboys.
Jerry's already forgotten he got cock blocked by the Broncos on Paxton Lynch and in his mind they scooped the league getting Dakota in the 4th.
As fans, we can only hope McCarthy really is the QB whisperer and Dak ends his ridiculous hold out.
Dak needs to put down his Oikos™ yogurt and get in the fucking building.

A lot of players get tagged without the guarantee of upgrading the position, but rarely are they exclusive. Did anyone give up two first rounders for Cousins? As far as how I know he signed, I just went to Spotrac. It says he signed a 1 year deal worth X amount. I guess it's possible they are assuming he will sign? I really don't know.

I did find one thing interesting about it. Yesterday it had the amount at over 31 million, which is why I came to the conclusion it was the exclusive tag. Now it says just over 28M which leads me to believe it's non exclusive.

It is the exclusive tag and it is now $28M. A couple of the QB’s restructured their deals which brought the average down. There are still a couple more QB’s that might get restructured bringing the average down a little more.

In life there are no guarantees but it doesn't mean you sit on your ass and accept what is.
And you are right that he has been tagged but has not signed yet which I can't imagine he will as they continue to try and hash out a long term deal.
Considering he was a 4th round pick that would be a mighty ROI if we got 2 first round picks for him. Now does the FO believe any of these guys coming out are "better" than Dak I don't know but if you do what the hell do you have to lose by dangling him out there and see if someone bites. Yes the first year would be rough and you'd have to hope they didn't whiff in their evaluation but there is better than Dak out there.
I do agree that McCarthy, so far, is saying the right things about Dak and probably cannot wait to get started working with him but oh yeah the fucken coronavirus and Dak's threat to stay away will limit that. And I agree that he would not have taken the job if he didn't believe Dak could be his guy plus I think he feels he can work with him and make him better.

Exactly what most people thought the first year without Romo would be.

Of course in that case, we were FORCED to roll the dice. It didn't take any balls to do it, we HAD to. And got extremely lucky.

Our FO doesn't have the balls required, to roll that dice again and will never do it voluntarily.

It depends on the player and how good he is, and particularly with the QB position.

Romo was undrafted, but you logic above would mean we should have been thrilled about someone offering us a 2nd rd pick for him or something?

There's absolutely zero ROI if you trade an establish starter for picks and the guys you get with the picks are busts. And it's exponentially worse when you consider doing that with the starting QB spot and have no legitimate contingency plan.
