FIRST ON FOX: A House lawmaker is nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after he brokered a ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran.

Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., wrote to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, declaring Trump had an "extraordinary and historic role" in having ended "the armed conflict between Israel and Iran and preventing the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet."

Trump declared the "12 Day War" was ending late on Monday afternoon with a ceasefire that was meant to go into effect overnight Tuesday.

I get the thinking that NATO is obsolete, at least regarding its original charter. But I still think there is some benefit to remaining in the organization for now at least. The benefit is very small compared to when there was a threat from the Soviet Union, but I still believe the benefit of coordinating defense strategies, and weaponry with our allies in Europe makes a lot of sense. I do not think Russia is a real threat anymore, and maybe China is a bigger threat. But we have never been good at predicting the future so NATO is a means of maintaining alliances and preparing for the future.

I also think Europe needs to do more for their own defense and stop relying on the US for most of their defense needs.
