If you could trade for Lions Ndumukong Suh or Tampa's Gerald McCoy, would you with how this team is playing now? Either could potentially be a long term fix to the front four and provide a big time playmaker at the 3 tech DT.

McCoy probably isn't available even though the Bucs are terrible, but they still don't have a long term deal done with him yet.

Most seem all but convinced Suh is leaving via free agency after the season and reportedly the Lions cant afford the franchise tag price to try and tag and trade him that way. If Detroit were to lose another game or two before the deadline, they might consider parting ways with him for less than usual market value.

Cowboys are in desperate need of some pass rushers. If they are going to be contenders, i think you need to make something happen.

Desperate or Needy Jerry scares me with trades. Now that they've moved the trade deadline back a few weeks, we should target teams who have zero chance of making playoffs and see if we can pry away pass rushers, especially those in the last year of their contract. Cleveland's Jabaal Sheard or Tampa Bay's DaQuan Bowers come to mind.

IF Detroit decides to make Suh available I'd like to see us involved but I'd be terrified we would give up too much.

Always looking to get better. I do think we need some sort of disrupter in the Dline. Melton and Spencer just seem slowed by injuries right now. Lawrence will take some time. As much as many didn't like Claiborne - that position is looking thin now as well. Tough matchup coming this week. A big time pass rusher can mean everything to a defense. Remember Haley.

It's simply just, the pass rush is alot more neutered in the modern game, with all the quick release throwing going on. The ball just doesn't stay in the passer's hand as much as it used to. Hardly anyone is getting to any passer with any consistency. It's not like this is a glaring problem in Dallas alone - in fact it's not really a problem, it is a product of the modern game. Ya can't hit the QB and ya can't rough up receivers. Therefore the ball is out really fast.

Good point. I still think though the more guys the offense has to use to block such as TEs and backs, the better off a defense is .

Ok so you are not impressed with Dez Bryant or Russell Wilson and you dont think a pass rush matters. Come on man.

Where did I say that?

It's been all but neutered, league wide, mostly by the new defensive holding rule. You got few sacks because the ball is gone. This isn't just a problem in Dallas, in fact it's pretty much league wide.

Never said any of that either. I've said Dez is worth about what Dallas is offering him, not what he's calling for. Wilson has flaws, among them turnovers.

Come on man. Comment on what I actually say, not what you want it to be.

no. absolutely not. not the right way to operate in this league.

So was it a bad idea for Jimmy to fix the teams weakest areas via trades with proven talent like Tony Casillas, Thomas Everett and Charles Haley in 91&92?

I would pass. Simply because the price of Suh would be incredibly high. High picks to get him then his extension will be extremely high. Just not worth it in my opinion.

Let's see what happens when we get some of our guys back healthy. Maybe gives us something to build on going into next year.

Also, Let's not fool ourselves with the 4-1 start. This team isn't going to the Super Bowl.

What the fuck are you talking about? You said this bullshit in another thread too.

Jets and Bills are tied at 17 sacks right now thru 5 games for the league lead. That's a 3.4 avg per game. On pace for 54.4 sacks this season.

Past seasons league leaders:

2013- panthers 60 sacks
2012- broncos 52 sacks
2011- eagles 50 sacks
2010- steelers 48 sacks
2009- Vikings 48 sacks
2008- cowboys 59 sacks
2007- giants 53 sacks
2006- chargers 61 sacks
2005- Seahawks 50 sacks
2004- falcons 48 sacks
2003- ravens 47 sacks

For an average of 52.4 per season.

We have 5 sacks so far this season thru 5 games. Average of 1 sack a game. We're on pace for 16 sacks this season. That's fuckin horrible.

Doomsday, stop with your bullshit already.

If we keep on getting picks and bad throws as QBs deal with pressure I won't consider the pass rush a failure even if there is obvious room for improvement.

That being said I would trade a 4th or beyond for either of those two DT at this point. All pro talent is worth that even if it is a rental for a year or two. I would not trade top 100 picks though considering our recent success rate. Yeah Claiborne has been a bust but I think we have done pretty well outside of that.

I'm talking league wide, and this year only due to the new defensive holding rules.

You come back with the league leaders numbers from years past?

I agree it will cost a lot to sign him, but it might not cost a lot to actually trade for him.

Supposedly Detroit knows they cant even franchise tag him after the season (cost too high, and they reportedly have little cap space for 2015) so if their season were to start going south, they might prefer to trade him and at least get something. Now I don't pretend that we could get him for a couple of 7th rd picks, but its very possible you could get him for something like a 2nd and maybe an additional pick, or maybe send them one of our DT's in addition to the pick.

I'll just go ahead and repost my last post. I'll give you a hint this time.. Let's see if you can find it.

I replied to that. We don't all get to play the Dolphins.

2014 NFL Player Defense Stats - National Football League - ESPN

Compare to previous years where we didn't have the defensive holding rule "enforcement" we have now. Stick with just weeks 1-6 in the comparisons, for now. As the season progresses we'll have more data.

The ball is getting out faster as defenders adjust to the unreasonable enforcement of the holding rule. Therefore less sacks.

The rules on hitting the QB are affecting it too.

Not everybody gets to play Miami.... :lol

Jets haven't played Miami yet so there's that.. Not to mention the Dolphins have let up 9 sacks so far this season. In a 6 way tie for 14th fewest sacks let up. The Cowboys are also included in that tie. Jaguars lead the league in sacks given up at 21. Neither the bills or jets have played them in case you were gonna try making that point next.

Keep spitting your bullshit tho.
