a rental player is not so bad if you consider this:

Comp picks are not automatic, they are impacted by whom you sign and what type of contract the person leaves, actually gets.

They got him for next to nothing because his play and injury situation are both pretty bad.

Right now they're unlikely to get anything for him unless he balls out the rest of this year.

Now his former teammate Montez Sweat is actually a pretty solid player. Washington got more for him because he is a far better player right now.
