¡Jeb! thought he had the chamber of commerce and e-GOP donors bagged. He was right too. But then Trump happened, and Bush's little "they come for love!" immigration act suddenly isn't palatable even in Washington any more. Not so much because they don't love it as because they don't believe in throwing money at self-identified losers.

I don't think he'd lose to Bush for pretty much the same reason I don't think Hillary would beat Trump. Only those who are entirely closed off to the idea of voting for any reason other than party loyalty will be voting for Bush and Clinton. I think there are enough people who don't want to see either of those families get another crack at the Whitehouse to ensure that neither do. The only way either would make it is if they both got the nomination.
And my apologies, david. I'm not sure I get the extent of your 1988 reference if there's more to it than just a Republican victory. I simply haven't acquired enough patina yet.

I totally agree that a Bush should not even be a consideration at this point, nor should a Clinton.
But if the country would vote for an outright socialist just so a certain name wouldn't make it, we're truly fucked.
