Estate tax is highway robbery & should be abolished in my opinion. I think the current rate is 40% so unless you find a workaround and you own an NFL team worth 10 billion when you die, whomever inherits the team has to come up with approx $4 billion. Is that some bullshit or what?
If Jerry put the team in an irrevocable trust back when it had a lower valuation of say $1 billion he would’ve had to pay some tax at that time. But it would save an enormous amount when he dies as that would be the value placed on the team at the time of death and little to no estate tax would be due on this asset. It’s not public information so we don’t know if we did it but he’s pretty savvy business wise so I’m sure he’s got a plan in place.
if not, this might be Cowboy fan’s only hope that the family gets priced out of ownership. Let’s hope he dropped the ball on this issue like he has being a GM
