Nobody probably knows the true number because so many of them are executed if caught. Some die just trying to make the journey. They actually have a TV show in South Korea dedicated to telling the stories of some of the people that DO make it. It's horrible beyond belief to hear what they went through.

But to them it's worth it to potentially die if they have a chance at freedom. Strange thing to see if Communism/Marxism is so great.
