Instead of always bitching and complaining, perhaps you should throw some sort of legit idea out there.

So lets pretend in your little world that they never franchised Spencer. Who would start at OLB in our scheme TODAY? Who can they reasonably get this weekend that would be at LEAST AS GOOD as what Spencer is, without question?

Shea McClellin
Chandler Jones
hell, even Jake Bequette

Instead of mindlessly defending every fucking move the Cowboys make maybe you could show an ounce of fortitude and testosterone and not be Jerry's bitch?

Before we tagged him there were options. Tagging him at $8.8M seriously limited our availability to replace him. Plus, this draft is deep in regards to 3-4 OLB types.

I both applaud and call out moves based on my opinion of those moves. You just spew out non-stop excuses, sunshine and rainbows for whatever we do, no matter what we do. Be a fan not a member of the Jerry Jones PR machine. I seriously can't read anything you write because I don't even think of you as a real fan anymore. You're Mickey Spagnola without the paycheck.

So basically you are admitting, there was no other legit option.

Thanks for confirming what I had said.

Not really sure Jones can play OLB everydown in a 3-4, I think he'd definitely have a hard time with the coverage issues.

McClellin is interesting, but Bequette isnt a guy you could plug in and be comfortable that he could do it everydown either.

I think there's some guys who with a year under their belt could take over fulltime next yr, but I dont know that there are alot of sure fire replacements for this year. If I had to take one guy and say "its him and Spencer is gone" I'd probably say Upshaw, but he worries me a little. I know he could habdle the run defense part and in terms of pass rush would probably do at least what Spencer does, but I do wonder if he'd be exposed pretty bad in space against the pass.

Well, dbair, if we want someone who only sets the edge, arrives late to the QB, takes the wrong angles in run support, and is only adequate in space, then I don't think it would take much to replicate.

Mario Williams, Jarret Johnson, Kameron Wimbley

Draft..Melvin Ingram, Quinton Coples, Nick Perry, Courtney Upshaw, Chandler Jones, Andre Branch, Whitney Mercilus, Shea McClellin, Bruce Irvin, Ronnell Lewis, Vinny Curry, Cameron Johnson, Jake Bequette, Jonathan Massaquoi, etc, etc.

Yep, Anthony Spencer was/is our only hope.

Ouch. David wasn't always a water carrier. Something happened around two years ago (stroke?)

Mario Williams wasnt a "legit" option, and he never visited or even considered a 3-4 team, did he? He was a betetr fit for the 4-3.

I dont know what happened with Jarrett Johnson, I guess you say he was a decent fall back guy, but he isnt as good of a player as Spencer is. Might give more effort consistently, but he isnt as good. I liked Wimbley, but Ryan had coached the guy so I'm going to trust that if he thought Wimbley was better for us, he'd have told Garrett and Jones that and they'd have signed him and dumped Spencer.

You listed a bunch of guys via the draft. Clearly not all of them (or even most of them) will walk into teams and start from day one. Most of them have never played in a 3-4 defense and would be converting. The other issue is you'd have to know for sure you'd get the right guy, and with us picking at 14 there's no way to know that. Your at the mercy of 13 other teams in front of you.

Which gets back to what I have said since day one. If there was no OBVIOUS upgrade available there for the taking, then it made sense to know for sure you at least had Spencer for 1 more year.

Hey genius, for a team that had its options "seriously limited" we sure signed alot of new players didnt we?

They didnt sign a Spencer replacement even though they could have. They could have signed anybody they wanted to potentially replace him, then simply removed the tag, which he didnt sign until today. They didnt, because there was nobody.

Jarret Johnson was integral to Baltimore's D. Moreso than Spencer is to ours.

the only thing I have to side with dbair on is that there weren't any legit options to replace him. We didn't have the money for Mario no matter what once the NFL fucked us in the ass, and I don't want to give Johnson or Wimbley long term deals.

The only thing dumber than this is your stance on DeCastro

He had 60 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks last yr, and has 4 sacks in his last 32 games. He has 20 sacks in 9 seasons.

What does that have to do with his responsibilities in the Raven's D?

orrrr we could have used some of that $9M plus money wasted on Nate Livings to sign an actual NFL caliber Guard.

They did sign a starting calibar G

Also left the door open to draft soem considerable talented players at the interior OL positions.

Nicks was the by far best option available, but the Bucs paid a ton of money to get him. I know he would have helped the team, but if getting Nicks meant sacrificing Spencer/Livings (and it would) AND meant you'd have to reach or trade up in the draft to insure you got Ingram or Upshaw to replace Spencer, I think they made the right call.

What responsibilities does he have exactly? That defense is completely run on the field by Lewis and Reed. He's been a JAG player for them and one they've been looking to upgrade for several years.

Mario Williams' 2012 cap number is $9.06M. I'd much rather pay that than give Spencer $8.8M. Williams cost about $267,000 more than Anthony Spencer. Mario fricking Williams.

Jarret Johnson's 2012 cap number? $2.5M

Kameron Wimbley's 2012 cap number is $4.3M.

but we made the right call.

lol no.

And his responsibilties were the same for what homers like you are raving about Spencer, only Johnson set the edge and the tempo for that D, much, much better. Hence why they could live, even excel, with his meager sack production.
