Philips wouldn't have gotten fired if he was part of the solution here. So that was a waste of 3 seasons, bc most knew he would fail right from the get-go. How does that not anger a season ticket holder?
Garrett was assistant head coach and in charge of 50% of the team at the time too. He somehow got absolved of all blame, and got promoted during that whole mess. Last season was another throw-away season where you can blame at least 2 losses on poor coaching. So that's basically 5 seasons just down the drain with poor coaching as a huge factor. Plus, how can a coach with zero experience be expected to develop young players and install productive and tested schemes? This team did not need a project head coach.
I'm willing to forgive players for blunders, but coaches have zero excuse in this day and age for being directly responsible for losses. There's just too much technology and too many assistants to have the blunders that Garrett had last season. Especially when there are other experienced and very capable coaches available. Harbaugh in SF is a prime example of a what a solid coach can do for a shitty franchise.
Nick Saban was a shitty NFL coach for about 1 season. Not sure why anything more than shit is expected from his coaching tree.
