Nailed it regarding Escobar

I thought Lance Dunbar was supposed to have a role similar to Reggie Bush/Darren Sproles, and Escobar was going to be a big receiving threat. Why haven't they been involved in the offense?

Rowan:Regarding the last guy you mentioned, all the second-round tight ends were supposed to have a big receiving role, dating back to the times of Martellus Bennett and Anthony Fasano. It’s just never happened with Jason Witten as the lead dog, and it may never happen. As for Dunbar, it’s been hard for the Cowboys to work him in when Murray’s been as efficient as he has. They don’t want to take Murray off the field. They’ve tried to work Dunbar in certain packages, sometimes as a fifth receiver, but when Murray’s running the way he is, there won’t be a ton of chances

for Dunbar.

David: I think the Cowboys want to use both of the guys you mentioned, but it seems like they only want to use them in certain, pre-ordained situations. The problem with that logic is that no football game ever goes completely according to the script. I’m not sure they believe in either guy as an every-down, every-situation-type of player. So when games go off the script, like they have often so far this season, their opportunities are going to take a dip. Fortunately for the Cowboys, they’re getting fantastic production from their Pro Bowlers. DeMarco Murray is on pace for more than 2,000 rushing yards and Dez Bryant is on pace for 100-plus catches and 1,300 yards. When opponents figure out how to slow those two down, you might see greater contributions from the role players.

It's not like we're getting much from Witten either, in the receiving category. But he is a devastating blocker in there.

That's what sucks about Garrett though. He's too reactionary. Wait till the opposing team can stop Murray and Dez before getting other people involved?

Why can't he just be proactive? And it's not like our offense is setting the world on fire featuring Dez and Murray's; thus far, huge seasons.

Someone was saying today Murray is on pace for like 450 touches. They're going to run him until he falls apart, which might not be too much longer.

I know he's running great, but what about his past indicates he can handle that kind of workload? Get some other runners some touches.

That big mofo TE the Giants got two years ago for pennies on the dollar looks pretty good so far. And fuck the "you can't expect Bennett and Escobar to produce because we have Witten" excuse. If Witten is an impediment, then stop wasting high picks on other TEs!

Interesting how much more durable he is, in his contract year than in previous years.

Ride him like a rented mule, I say. Then let him leave if he wants. RBs are a dime a dozen in the draft.

This.

Garrett's never a innovator or even any kind of original thinker.

The wasted resources on the TE position are inexcusable.

You don't need to spend a 2nd rounder for a recieving TE. There are tons out there who came later in the draft. The Redskins have 2 late round TEs, both very capable of recieving. Niles Paul has numbers right now that are probably better than what Escobar will produce for the entire season.

It's fuckin stupid. Between mo and Escobar the team has turned #14, #45, and #47 picks into nothing. Absurdly awful management. One guy is probably the biggest bust the team has had in a long ass time and the other guy doesn't get on the field because of coaching. Fucking stupid.

This is all still more symptoms of the "make the offense Romo-friendly" syndrome. Imagine what those picks and more could have done for the defense over the years.

Blame on both sides is fair. Its an organizational failure to have drafted 3 #2 TE's in the span they have with the #1 TE Witten being his prime, then its a failure of the coaching staff (massive failure) for not figuring out ways to at least get some production out of them.

Escobar is flat out being wasted now, and unlike when Fasano or Bennett were here, they really cant say its because Witten is all world anymore. Witten is still a good player, but he is absolutely not a downfield threat much anymore. Escobar is, and Escobar could be a pretty significant red zone threat too if they'd use him.

Strooth.

During the Denver /Seattle game the commentators were criticizing Peyton Manning (who runs an offense that has same roots as Jason's) saying that Denver is spending too much time feeling the Seahawks out when they should be dictating.

Dictating the pace, the formations, the time....etc

Agreed. Jason stagnates the offense despite having the players to mismatch the defense, just with the TEs.

Remind me again what those injuries were
He's missed games due to injury every fucking year. I didn't keep a checklist of his maladies, I only know he has been injury prone. Until now.

To my recollection it's been the ever abundant hammy and also, patella tendon and other knee issues. Pretty sure he missed 2-3 games last year with a MCL. Missed six games one year as I recall, over a sprained foot.

I dunno, sounds pretty fucking injury prone.

You insinuated that he was dogging it with those injuries and that he wasn't injured this yr because it was a contract yr.

I said quite clearly, suddenly he is durable. He has every incentive to be. Beast the contract year, get the big extension.

I say, ride him like the rented mule he is then let him leave.

The "Romo-friendly" terms make me sick. How many times has teams used terms like "Brady-friendly" or "Manning-friendly" ? I have never seen a team use so many resources to prop a QB up in an effort to make him elite. It has created an unbalanced team over the years.
