Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon will be making a pre-draft visit to Valley Ranch to visit with Cowboys’ coaches and scouts, a source said.

Exaggeration? Sure. But it’s no secret that the Cowboys are looking to the draft to fill the void left by DeMarco Murray’s departure.

Gordon and Georgia’s Todd Gurley are regarded as the top two backs available. Gordon rushed for 4,915 yards and averaged 7.8 yards a carry for his college career. He had 2,587 yards on the ground with 29 touchdowns his junior year with the Badgers.

The Cowboys want to meet with him for an extensive interview.

He won’t be the only running back to take part in this process

David is trying to imitate Justbob. He just can't do it with the same forceful attitude.

Almost same workload as Murray last year, but fewer games, and still goes 7.5 a pop?

I still think Gurley is a much better prospect. The oline of the Badgers has made a lot of RBs look much better than they are. I think Gutley has the potential to be an Adrian Peterson type of RB. Don't take that as a prediction that he will have a career as good as AP. I do think this team's future depends on having a top talent at the RB position. McFadden, Ryan Williams, Randle or Dunbar has no chance of filling the role. I think this offense has to have one elite RB to carry the load. A RB needs to get a lot of carries to get into the flow of the game and it helps them wear defenses down by the 4th quarter to finish off games. Dallas does not a RB capable of doing that at this time.

Obvious UGA homer here, but Gurley is unquestionably the best RB in the draft and if not for the ACL, he'd be a top-10, maybe even a top 5 pick.

Major impact player once he is 100%. If he gets to our slot at 27 its a no brainer to me.

I think someone pulls the trigger on Gurley before 27. No doubt he's top 10 without the ACL injury.
