Doesnt explain why he wanted Manziel so bad then two years ago. Did he believe the team was bad and had no chance to make the playoffs then?

I think he did as evidenced by his comments shitting all over Zach Martin by saying passing on Manzel was a fast path to mediocrity

Then he came out at the beginning of the 2014 season distancing himself from the team and was the most negative I think Ive ever heard him going into a season, wasn't talking super, etc, etc

That's what made it extra delicious when they had the year they did in 2014 because jerri had basically sold out the folks he relented to and distanced himself from the direction they were going. He kept yapping about JFF all year long until the team shut his ass up toward the end of the season. It was almost like he was setting the table to be able to say "I told you so!"

of course that didn't stop the dipshits from giving that jackass gm of the year award

Yeah, I'm absolutely with bb. If there were a Clowney or Von Miller or Watt type it would be one thing, but there's really nobody like that. Buckner is the only one possibly that good, and he almost seems too big for what Marinelli wants. (Which sounds stupid but could still be true.)

I hate the idea of drafting based on the scheme
Of guys who are only coaching here for a few years . Bodies like deforest Buckner don't come along very often. He's basically 6'7" and 300 lbs can play all over and he plays 100 snaps a game at times that's rare cardio. He's worth like half a second less time in the pocket per snap for opposing qbs.

But who's the sure thing that we take instead of Wentz or Goff? There's no LT or Deion in this draft. Bosa? He has a lot of detractors. Ramsey? Great measurables but not a play-making machine. Jack? More Sean Lee than Khalil Mack.

Good question.

I have no idea who the Cowboys think is the closest thing to a sure thing.

... many seem to think Elliott has the lowest bust potential. But then there's the value at pick argument going against Elliott. So the draftniks would tell you trade back. Which isn't necessarily a bad idea, assuming you have a trading partner.

I could see Jerruh being stupid about this and pushing back on Stevie, Garrett and scouts who might push for a QB though.

Jerruh has no plan and never has. He manages and makes decisions on a whim. Just like he had to be talked out of that idiot Manziel two years ago, he might have to be talked into the QB this time.

I think it's Jason and Jerry against Stephen. I dont think Jason wants the responsibility of a new QB, especially one with a lot of talent, upside, expectations and high draft pick. As soon as his system fails to develop the player (as odd as that sounds, that is the reality) and the team is tanking, the blame and excuses will be hard to place on the nature of the QB and rest solely on the nurture of a phony strategist.

I could see Jason make comments about Carson Wentz like "well we evaluated him at the a Senior Bowl and his completion percentage was not where we like it to be for our system...." Meanwhile the throws were dead on and the WRs dropped passes.

It's more about making money, not so much about winning games. Jerry probably drooled over Manziel jerseys being sold at the pro shop. Which is why he is so attached to Romo. He's the best seller.

Watt wasn't picked until 11 I think. I don't remember anyone propping him up as a hall of fame caliber defensive player when he came out. I remember getting crucified by that troll SBK for making some positive comments about him and all I kept getting was "JJ White" from him and a couple others.

Every draft doesn't have ten sure things sitting there at the top, but every draft does have good players. You have to trust the scouts and then hope the coaches do a good job on their end.
