Apparently it’s not over
There is now another case from another county.

It is such a Browns thing to do to trade for this guy then have him suspended all season after giving up all those draft picks.

So it’s official

It will be a six game suspension for Watson which he will NOT appeal.

This is bullshit. He got the same suspension Zeke got. Zeke had one claim against him with no actual charges brought against him.

Watson had 24! Almost all of which were settled out of court.

Except Zeke didn't do anything and the league's own investigator (also a woman) recommended NO suspension.

Prior to that the same investigator said Giants PK deserved the full 6 games because of the massive amount of evidence and police reports, and the league instead gave him 1 game.

He would be stupid to increase the penalty, the union and Watson would sue and this will be in the news cycle for a year at least - aaaannnnd Watson would be playing week 1 on the appeal.

When the league agreed on outside arbitration this is what was known could occur.

Goodell should just issue a statement saying how terrible this is but we have to go with what the judge decided, and move on with life.

i read somewhere last night that Goodell gets to decide who hears the appeal and could actually make himself the decision maker.

I don't understand why they didn't do this from the beginning.

That power was removed from him after the Zeke incident in the new CBA. He does have power of appeal though and CAN arbitrarily add to the judge's ruling, but then the union and the player have right to sue. Watson would be playing week one pending the trial, and this shit will be in the news cycle for at least the next year. It would be an exceedingly dumb move by Goodell.

The league asked for the heavy club of one year suspension and a 5 million dolla fine. The judge gave him 6 games. Tough noogies, move on.

Didn’t the independent arbitrator in Zeke’s case recommend a zero game suspension and the NFL decided to give him a six game suspension anyway?

Or am I misremembering that situation?

Yeah there wasn't an independent arbiter then. There is now, because the players wanted to neuter Goodell's disciplinary power.

Yep, she said the witness wasn't believable and there was nothing that substantiated any suspension. This is why Jones was so angry upon hearing Zeke as getting suspended, because the arbitrator had apparently leaked that info to Jerry prior and assured him Zeke would be cleared (along with why).

The same arbitrator ruled Kris Brown should have gotten a full 6 game suspension because of the litany of evidence against him, including police and hospital records. Instead, Goodell gave Brown (then the NYG PK) only a 1 game suspension.

But there's no bias against the Cowboys from Goodell's office at all.

The league and the union agreed on an 11 game suspension and a 5 million dollar fine. Watson's first game will be week 13 vs his old team, Houston.
