Was he the best character actor ever, by miles?
Just saw him in the Gunsmoke two part episode "Island in the Desert" and there's no one else alive then or now that could have so convincingly brought that character to life.
Another of his great roles was as TT Flowers in a Rockford Files two-parter.
Dude was a national treasure and still is. Discuss.
