Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett rattles off long list of reasons of how the defense struggled in preseason opener

OXNARD, Calif. — Obviously, Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett still isn’t very happy with how the defense played in the preseason opener Thursday night at San Diego.

In a rare moment for Garrett, he went on and on about how badly the defense performed against the Chargers after he and his staff evaluated the film from the game.

So, what were the biggest issues with the Cowboys’ defense Thursday?

“Uh, lets start from top to bottom: The discipline wasn’t very good, the gap control wasn’t very good, it wasn’t very physical, we didn’t tackle very well, we didn’t run to the ball well enough, we didn’t make enough plays,” Garrett said. “We made one play on the ball that was significant, but we didn’t make any plays that made a difference in the game.

“I thought we did a good job in the red zone a couple of times, forcing a turnover on the 1-yard line and forcing them to kick a field goal when they were inside the 5. there were some things that you can say, ‘That was alright,’ but for the most part across the board it wasn’t what we needed to be.”

Earlier in his Saturday afternoon news conference, Garrett said, “We have a long way to go in a lot of areas.”

That starts with making them tuck their fucking jerseys in. Sloppy look, sloppy play and you're surprised? NO detail is too small if you want disciplined players.

Were you a hat can't be on backwards kinda guy?
I was and am, a hat with your chinstrap fucking buckled kind of guy.

Start paying attention, and watch the successful teams paying attention to the little details, and watch them on Super Bowl Sunday on TV while the Cowboys and Redball sit at home and watch too.

Go look at tape, see if there EVER was mass shirts untucked, under Jimmy and Tom. You know them, the two guys who would win a Super Bowl every now and then?

This sloppiness in dress has been a trend the last several years, matching the trend of exactly what Redball was saying:

Coincidence?

I'll give another example. If you watch a little bit for it, you'll see Tony Romo unbuckles his chin strap after every play. What the fuck for? It is a dumb habit that only serves to give him something else to remember before the snap. He's ran entire plays without buckling it back up, and has several times not remembered to buckle it until he is standing in the shotgun, barking out signals.

Why does he want to give himself something stupid and unnecessary like that, to have to remember every play along with everything else he's got to remember? It's just a dumb habit we don't see with the Mannings and the Brees, the Bradys of the world.

The lack of discipline Redball apparently just now realized exists, has been going on in Dallas for years. Tuck your fucking jersey in so you don't have to worry about it and don't look like a sloppy oaf when you're missing tackles and getting beat on coverages, and keep your fucking chinstrap buckled between plays when you're out there on the field during the game.

It starts with the little stuff.

I have to admit Dez wearing his socks a little low bothers me.

I haven't noticed that probably because Dez doesn't make many mistakes and isn't known for sloppy play.

But, yeah I got your little dig there.:neutral

So let me see if I got this right... basically, what you're saying is:

1. Tuck your fuckin god damn mother effin jersey in!

And 2. Fuck you Tony Romo and your chin strap.

It might be something worth trying, since the successful teams seem to have no trouble with it.
And 2. Fuck you Tony Romo and your chin strap.

But Brett Favre did... I bet that's where Romo got it.
