then when two of those OL can't get on the field cuz they're later round projects, only one DL gets on sparingly because we have a steady lineup ahead of him and Lance Dunbar is our #1 back and our kick coverage is terrible because we have noone to play STs...

the draft fell how it fell. All of our picks were at positions that were varying degrees of "need".

We didn't have the capacity to draft two walk-in starters? So far, only Fred fits the bill. Every other guy we drafted will either split time with a starter or play exclusively on ST. Needed more than that.

Williams will eventually be more than a ST's player or backup. Same can be said for Escobar. Wilcox on the other hand is another project it seems.

Hopefully Wilcox will be further along than Awansah Onsah of the Mambutu Tribe.

In our offense the second TE is basically a starter in the way that Vickers was. Significant enough amount of snaps that you can go ahead and call it that. Don't know how it will work out with Hanna but at least we look deep there if Witten goes down or falls off. #3 WR is a similar spot, of course we have Harris there.

Maybe one of the other guys will earn a spot.

Was shocked to learn that some teams had Fred in the sixth or seventh round. What do they know that we don't?

The idea that several teams may have had him rated as a sixth or seventh round draft pick surprises me. Frankly, it sounds farfetched.

The only way I could see that is if he called up the 5 teams in the league with the best C/G combos and they said they had no intention of taking an interior lineman.

:lol

Poor Werder. Always accused of lying whenever he has anything unflattering to report about the Cowboys.

Yeah, but this definitely seems full of shittish.

Frederick is a good player. And we're supposed to believe Werder called 5 teams and they all said 4th round and lower?

Even if 5 teams did say that.... did he only call 5 teams? Did he leave off the part where he actually called 10 teams but 5 teams were complimentary of the player, but that doesn't fit the agenda, so lets just talk about what these shit talkers said?

Seems purely BS to me.

When escobar, randle, Frederick and Williams are on the field this summer making plays and helping us score points I am going to be really happy and the guys who want to bitch will still be bitching.
I doubt anyone is going to be sulking when Escobar is catching TDs in the red zone.

Why does it have to be one extreme or the other? You complain about other posters calling you a homer, then you do this.

I don't think you're a homer who rubber stamps everything. On the other hand, don't argue that the people who didn't like the Escobar pick are always going to be negative.

He doesn't have to lie to make the Cowboys look bad. They do that all by themselves.

Lets focus on this instance.

Who knows? The other 27 teams he didn't have time to call may have had Fred rated as a second rounder at worst. But I'm not ready to buy the line that he's a hate-filled liar.

I was thinking the same thing.

I have no trouble believing that Jerry is capable of making a truly horrible pick. But I guess I have more faith in the media. If the 1st round pick was widely seen as a 6th or 7th round value, I think more people would have realized it and reported it ... more or less immediately, during the coverage of the first round.

Boom. I was trying to elaborate on exactly why this was so far fetched. You nailed it.

People love ragging on draft picks that were reaches especially when Jerry was involved. If this was legit more people would have it. Meanwhile Peter King and co. defend our draft.

Look, agree or disagree with me or anyone else all you want, but to dismiss anyone's take because they don't like Jerry, don't like Garrett, Romo, etc. is narrow minded and will always result in the counter take that you are a jocker. I don't do it because I think you are a sunshine pumper. I do it to show you how simple it is to always dismiss someone because they lean to one side or the other.

This site tends to lean to those who are unhappy with the current state of the franchise. It was born out of resistance to a site where you are literally not allowed to question things. It's not for everyone. If someone posts why they don't like something, counter their points, prove them incorrect if you can. If you say "quit bitching" or "you just hate Jerry" then expect to have the same mentality thrown your way.

I'll say this for the "realists" , most of them have things they love about the team and things they hate. I can't remember the last time I've seen a regular poster who just hates every aspect of the Dallas Cowboys. The same can't be said for the other side though. They love everything the Cowboys do, blame the media for any negative coverage of the team, and make excuses. The lack of playoff success is chalked up to "parity" when in fact, parity would demand that we would have had more success in the last 17 years. Hell, even dbair called out the lack of value in the 1st round trade. Be critical of things that go wrong and praise the things we do right. It's not a radical concept.

I see a lot of Cowboy fans suddenly defending every draft pick we made. Yet, I do not recall a single one of you saying that you hope we draft a TE, WR, and project Safety really early before the draft. Message boards are for those who want to discuss the team. Like everything else in America lately, it becomes about what side you are on.

Wrong. I specifically hit you up on twitter and told you I was looking at WRs right before we took one..I also specifically said I was looking for a speedster..

It was clear as day to me that a vertical threat was a big hole on this team.

But overall, your post is dead on. I'm the opposite of you, I was ok with the trade down..IMO, gaining more picks was crucial for this team, even at a discounted price for us. I didn't like the actual pick of Fred but I think he has a chance to prove me wrong.

The pick I liked the least was Wilcox. I think he was a luxury pick. We don't have time to groom a 3rd rounder, we need player to step in now.

It wouldn't be a Dallas draft without a 4th round project.

Hanna is a loser. Can't believe people think that bum will impede Escos progress...

We talkin bout a 6th rounder..a 6th rounder..not a 1st..not a 1st..a sixth rounder.

Fuck out of here

Absolutely. Too bad this guy was taken even earlier! I'm ok taking shots in round 4-7...those guys don't hit often anyways. Fire away. But top 100 picks need to be sure bets
