As far as the read option goes the uncovered OLB in a 3-4 and the uncovered DE in a 4-3 is the same concept for the QB read.

The Ravens did a solid job with Terrell Suggs in the Superbowl. He pretty much blew up Kaepernick every chance he got. Sure it completely takes an effective player like Suggs out of the game but it made Kaeperick a less effective runner and forced him to hand off the ball to Gore or James on each read. Helps the ILB's fly to the ball carrier when they know the QB is not a true option.

Luckily, the read requires a special type of skill specific QB and there is only 4 or 5 of them in the league (2 in our division). Once these guys start getting blown up and hurt on the regular, the Zone Read will start to fade away in the NFL. It's a difficult scheme to defend but this league is QB driven. Owners won't stand for their multi-million dollar investments being shelved all of the time.

Not saying either defense is going to absolutely stop the option. Just that I like the ability to put pressure on the QB in the option better in the 4-3. In the 3-4 you have a DE who's taken out, the OG gets into the play side ILB and all you're left with is the OLB to cover two people. You get a penetrating DE and a WLB or a SLB who plays wider than 3-4 ILBs and doesn't get lost in the wash with the OGs, and you have better chance to cover the pitch man. Just my opinion.

The zone read makes safety play even more important.

I wouldn't be surprised if teams start going back to using a safety as the 8th man in the box as long as the zone-read craze remains in effect.

I think DB blitzes might be a way to combat the zone-read.

The key to our season will be generating 25+ turnovers. If Ware believes that they can do that, the season will be a success.

DB blitzes might work some of the time on the read-option, but I don't think you can do that enough to stop it with any consistency. I feel like you gotta stop it with your front 7.

Oh man they did an excellent job with that. Such an aggressive call and it completely blew up the read option. That offense will be done just like the wildcat is.
