As far as the read option goes the uncovered OLB in a 3-4 and the uncovered DE in a 4-3 is the same concept for the QB read.
The Ravens did a solid job with Terrell Suggs in the Superbowl. He pretty much blew up Kaepernick every chance he got. Sure it completely takes an effective player like Suggs out of the game but it made Kaeperick a less effective runner and forced him to hand off the ball to Gore or James on each read. Helps the ILB's fly to the ball carrier when they know the QB is not a true option.
Luckily, the read requires a special type of skill specific QB and there is only 4 or 5 of them in the league (2 in our division). Once these guys start getting blown up and hurt on the regular, the Zone Read will start to fade away in the NFL. It's a difficult scheme to defend but this league is QB driven. Owners won't stand for their multi-million dollar investments being shelved all of the time.
