Joey Porter trade:
Positives:
1) By all coverage metrics, he's a high quality cover CB. Sticks to his guy and does break up a lot of passes. Doesnt surrender TDs.
2) It really didn't cost us much, and they didn't sacrifice any remaining premium 2027 picks to get him.
3) With all the secondary injuries, we are seriously handicapped and even when they are all healthy, they weren't overly good. Porter is better than our other CB's by a considerable amount.
4) If Revel could get healthy and continue to improve, he could start opp Porter and we could move Bland back into the slot CB position where he was really good as a rookie and beginning of his 2nd yr. That would allow them to move Caleb Downs permanently to safety, where he is eons better than anyone else we have at that spot and Durant into a 3rd/4th CB role once he gets healthy and returns.
5) If they for some reason let him walk after the season, we'd almost assuredly recoup a 2028 3rd rd comp pick for him. Meaning we got him this season for beans in terms of net cost.
6) We have a propensity to waste 2nd rd picks on mediocre prospects anyway, so at least we are getting a good player this time.
Negatives:
1) They probably need to figure out a way to keep him long term, which won't be easy with a pending mega deal for Pickens on the horizon.
2) Most note he is a better man to man/press man CB, and that at least on paper, isnt what Parker prefers to scheme for.
3) He can get overly physical and handsy, leading to penalties.
4) He doesn't get many interceptions.
5) He may not be 100% healthy and if he is, it means he was pulling the same stunt Parsons and Jalen Ramsey did to force trades by faking a back injury.
