Haven't gone through all the clips yet, but this is the first one I saw...To me it might be somewhat telling that even on the first day of camp, they are already experimenting with Kevonte Turpin in a true RB spot despite having 4 new true RB's on the roster than they probably need to evaluate.

I don't take it as an indictment of the RB room. They're obviously experimenting with formations and players and I'm all for it. Go Schotty..............

After I posted it there was another blurb from one of the reporters that said this was Schotty's doing, and that he wanted to see more of it last yr too but Fat Mike said no. We did see a handful of plays with him at the RB spot.

No practice today. Players that have seemed to be mentioned the most that I have noticed (in a positive way)

1) Donovan Ezeiruaku- has improved every day and his last two practices were labeled "dominant" by more than a few reporters

2) Kair Elam- has made plays every day it seems...they have been impressed with him and he has probably locked down a starting job at CB already...

3) Marshawn Kneeland- has been all over the place and has opened some eyes rushing the passer to...also had a pick on Prescott

4) George Pickens- seems to be exactly what everyone was hoping he'd be. Has had some highlight reel catches and plays every day. Him and Lamb could be scary good together.

5) Deuce Vaughn- will be a surprise to many because he was an afterthought, but he has had a number of really impressive runs and has caught a few throws as well...looks more like the running he was at K State (which prob shouldnt be a surprise considering it's the same OL coach and mostly the same blocking scheme)

Would throw in Kevonte Turpin (receiver and as a RB), DE Sam Williams, LB Marist Liufau and backup QB Joe Milton too

My understanding is that Guyton has not improved much. Getting burned by Ezeiruaku and the like.

Eh. They've actually posted plenty of reps where he has looked pretty good too. His run blocking has also been impressive.

EZ is just really good. He's going to burn a lot of T's this year.

I didn't have much faith in the former OL coaches, but I do in Adams and Riley.

5. Tyler Guyton - It's a big year for the former first round pick. There's an expectation now from fans around the NFL to see a significant jump in production from year one to year two in the league. So far, Guyton has checked all the boxes. Has it been a perfect week of practice? No. But he's shown an ability to pick up pass rushers by standing strong in his sets and footwork. Multiple times already, he's shown growth in his ability to reset his hands and regain leverage against some of the speed rushers Dallas employs. Each proving that progress has been made in the offseason, and the teaching is paying off.

4. Kaiir Elam-
Following a stellar offseason and initial impression in Dallas, Elam has continued his momentum in Oxnard. He kicked off training camp with an interception off Dak Prescott during Wednesday's practice, even earning high praise from Brian Schottenheimer. "He plays the game the right way," Schottenheimer said. "He studies, he's on top of splits, awareness, and relating to receivers based on their splits." Going back to OTAs and minicamp, he's constantly impressed by making plays on the football and showing high-level football IQ and confidence during his first season in Dallas. Due to the lack of overall health at the cornerback position, Elam's rise to a possible starting position would cement an under-the-radar steal by the front office this offseason.

3. CeeDee Lamb- No surprise here. The first time that CeeDee Lamb is back on the practice field in Oxnard since 2023 and he finds his way into the highlight reels again. Lamb has made a habit of exciting grabs and jaw-dropping athleticism in practices since his rookie season in 2020, but this year feels like the start of something special. The pre-snap motion and misdirection that Schottenheimer's offense has showcased so far, all could play towards Lamb's skillset, which we're seeing already in practice.

2. Donovan Ezeiruaku- Every year, one rookie tends to steal the show in the early portion of practices. This year, Ezeiruaku has been that guy for Matt Eberflus' defense. Without Micah Parsons in the rotation, the second-round rookie has taken advantage of the extra snaps by winning reps against both the first- and second-string offensive lines. He has recorded multiple sacks, including a clear one of Dak Prescott in Thursday's team drills. Ezeiruaku has also benefitted from the advice and conversations that Parsons has given him, despite not participating in practice himself (as seen below).

1. George Pickens- All eyes have been on Pickens since the moment he arrived in Dallas. "How would he fit in? How will he mesh with the offense? How will he contribute?" So far, all these questions have been answered by Pickens who has turned in three impressive practices so far. Whether it's his knowledge of the offense, his ability to block in the run game, or his incredible hands and athleticism in the passing game, Pickens has been the star of camp so far. This doesn't take anything away from CeeDee Lamb, who still landed at number three on the list. Instead, it's a credit to Lamb and the entire coaching staff for allowing Pickens to be himself and be comfortable in a new situation.

Excited to see all the new draft picks and additions to the team. I will say overall the front office does a pretty good job with the draft. They do have their busts from time to time but overall do a pretty good job. The Achilles heel of the organization has always been and will continue to be Jerruh Jones and son. They have infected the culture of a once great organization. After digesting the hiring of Shotty I am beginning to be cautiously optimistic that he will be an improvement over previous coaching. Not saying he has the ability to overcome the Jones boys but I am hopeful his coaching will be better. The schedule is extremely tough. We still have Dak at QB which is not the best situation. As Dbair and others have pointed out Dilfer, And other less than stellar QBs have won superbowls so not entirely impossible. I do believe there are areas of weakness that have not been adequately addressed. We still need a bonafide badass one technique. Mazi ain’t the guy to hold down the middle. Cornerback is questionable due to injuries. I would be ok with corner if everyone was healthy. Left tackle Guyton has to step up although their is enough talent to shuffle the deck to put the best five out there. Running back is a major question mark. Not sold on running by committee. This entire season will boil down to staying healthy and winning close games. Coaching will be critical. They will have to manage Daks inadequacies which will be challenging. They will have to keep him from making boneheaded decisions throughout the season. In order of importance the Cowboys will have to overcome JJs culture, Daks inadequacies, tough schedule, and stay healthy to have any chance of reaching the playoffs. We are also going to need some good luck! I think the coaching and overall talent is there to make a run if the stars align. Regardless, for now we are a 500 team 0-0. Will the football Gods smile down upon us after a thirty year drought? We will know very quickly when the season begins.

4 free agents Cowboys could consider bringing to training camp

There are still some free agent options who the Cowboys should be considering.

The recent addition of James Houston suggests the Dallas Cowboys aren't done attempting to upgrade their roster, even at positions like defensive end where there was already a logjam of talent. With the way the roster looks right now, there are still several positions that could stand to be upgraded and players still available who can help.
Today, we take a look at four free agents who are still currently available on the open market who we believe the Cowboys should consider bringing into training camp, whether it's for just a looksee or to upgrade a specific position.

CB Mike Hilton

Even though the Cowboys traded for former first-rounder Kaiir Elam and drafted Shavon Revel in the third-round, they have as of yet addressed the depth at slot CB after Jourdan Lewis' departure via free agency. DaRon Bland likely replaces Lewis, but behind him Dallas' options are pretty much nonexistent. Bringing in Mike Hilton, who has been one of the better nickel CBs in the league, would erase any and all concerns at the position.

DT Raekwon Davis

The Cowboys had one of the worst run defenses in the league in 2024 and did little over the offseason that suggests they will be much, if any, better this year. And, to add insult to injury, Dallas' former first-round pick Mazi Smith has dropped weight and is expected to play more of a hybrid DT role this year. Despite adding some new faces to the DT room, the Cowboys could stand to upgrade the interior of their DL with a big-bodied, run-stuffer like Raekwon Davis, a former second-round pick. He'd provide veteran experience and depth.

CB Stephon Gilmore

The Cowboys have plenty of bodies to provide depth at the outside CB position, but still have to work through plenty of injuries in the early portion of the season before the starters are settled in. What better way to circumvent this issue than to add a veteran stopgap who has not only seen it all in his career, but is also no stranger playing in Dallas. Even at nearly 35 years old, Stephon Gilmore has enough left in the tank to help the Cowboys.

LB Ja’Whaun Bentley

Despite trading for Kenneth Murray Jr. and signing free agent Jack Sanborn, the Cowboys LB position right now is a bit of the mystery, especially with DeMarvion Overshown's unknown timetable to return this year. Ja'Whaun Bentley could be the perfect buy-low candidate who could bounce back in a big way. He missed nearly all of the 2024 season due to an injury, but had three seasons of 100+ tackles prior to that. The 6'2", 250-pound MLB would give Dallas another quality starting player with veteran experience.
