Injuries already starting to mount most specifically in the offensive line. We are in no position to start this season already wounded (self inflicted) . I know this is modern day football with big money at stake, but sometimes I feel like these professional players are over training. Compared to the past these players are bigger stronger and faster. I often wonder if it would be better to work out the kinks in preseason vs an all out physical training camp. It just feels like every year we are bitten by the injury bug before the season even starts. I know other teams face the same challenges, but our margin of error is slim. Now the league is pushing an 18 game regular season and throwing in international games that makes it even more important to stay healthy. For anyone who has played tackle football at any level you know what I am talking about. Avoiding injuries is critical if our team is to have any chance of reaching the playoffs. For players in the trenches on both sides of the ball their bodies are in constant soreness and pain throughout the season. It is a grind that the average fan may not fully understand. I know in the past players were given extended breaks after the season to recover. I believe this year round training may be doing more harm than good. I also believe football should be played on natural grass. Artificial turf is a killer on professional athletes. I don’t care how much technology has improved, we will never be able to mimic real grass. So the question becomes, do we go at each other during training camp and risk injury or do we go a little easier and take our lumps and work out kinks during preseason. I go back and forth on this issue. What are your thoughts?
