None of this speaks to what the appeals will bring if the lawyers are competent. Yes the cop was an idiot and also indifferent to the well being of the suspect, but that's beside the point of a fair trial.

It'll all be overturned on appeal. No way this is a fair trial if the jury wasn't sequestered. There's a dozen other grounds. Appeasement for now might keep the city from burning.

Overcharging was done to appease the mob. When the jury ignores the top ridiculous charge, that's the very thing they're gonna use to cry foul. Whereas had the prosecutors charged this like they should have, probably get a conviction on that and there would have been gripes over "why not murder"...

They use "Truth." Which can be anything you want OUTSIDE facts or logic. And carries a supposed superiority of morals connotation with it. When I hear that word used I know we are not dealing with fact or logic.
