Vela - Running the Rob Ryan Defense, Part One: Knowing Your Opponents' Hand

The less I see the Cowboys in their standard 3-4 and more in other alignments the more pleased I'll be.

    Random thoughts on the Cowboys

That's a valid point. You aren't helping the team from the trainer's room.

NFL players rank Romo, Ratliff at Nos. 72, 75

I think the rankings of Romo and Ratliff are about where I would put them.

Sturm: X's and O's - More Rob Ryan Study

Interesting point. And there may be some merit to that thought. But keep in mind that it wasn't like the Cowboys weren't playing man to man last year, it just wasn't the "bump & run" version. The corners played man to man, but they played off the receivers, giving them an ample cushion at...

Moose on Cowboys' camp: 'I know they're going to do it the right way this year'....

Very true. The Cowboys had very little "vertical game" over that stretch due to Kitna's lack of arm-strength. On top of that was the inconsistent running game and a defense that was dreadful.

Mel's confusing post draft chat Dallas mention....

Mel used to be much more brutal in his assessments. He's gotten more bland.

Moose on Cowboys' camp: 'I know they're going to do it the right way this year'....

I blame Jerry and I blame Phillips. There's more than enough blame to go around. However Garret getting this crew to go 5-3, shows how much affect the coach does have.

Moose on Cowboys' camp: 'I know they're going to do it the right way this year'....

No question. It just underscores what a friggin waste 2010 was... Stunningly wasteful.

Moose on Cowboys' camp: 'I know they're going to do it the right way this year'....

I just shake my head when I think about last year's training camp. You combine a "cream-puff" coach like Phillips with an environment that isn't conductive to hard work, and you get 1-7.

Welcoming Back Carter In Due Time

Yeah, if he won't take on blocks then that could be an issue.

Welcoming Back Carter In Due Time

    I like the pick.

Mailbag - If cap is in place, will the Cowboys be able to do anything in free agency?

Kind of a mixed bag... In 1991 they were 13th in the number of defensive snaps (#1 facing the fewest number of snaps) 1992 1st, and if I recall it was by a good number of plays 1993 18th 1994 16th 1995 7th

Mailbag - If cap is in place, will the Cowboys be able to do anything in free agency?

Interesting comment about the defense during the early 90's. Here are the ranking for the offense during that time period, this is scoring offense: 1991 9th 1992 2nd 1993 2nd 1994 2nd 1995 3rd OK, here are the scoring defense ranking for the same years: 1991 17th 1992 5th 1993 2nd 1994 3rd...

Eatman: Are We Sure Colombo Is Gone?

I think it will come down to how the team feels about Sam Young. If they think Young has the capacity to give them what Colombo can this year (which probably isn't a lot) then Young stays and Colombo goes. The one benefit in Colombo's corner is that his contract isn't outrageously high.

    Kirwan: Nnamdi and Jenkins

Cut Leonard and Igor and you have two more holes you have to fill immediately. Nah. I don't think Newman is going to get cut either.

Ellis - FA Watch: Ravens' Landry May Fit Need

I'm growing to dislike the term "In the box safety". I would like a safety like Woody who can both tackle AND cover a tightend without falling a yard behind after 5 steps.

Taylor: Jason Garrett reminds me of fellow control freak Nick Saban

You do know Jason Garret is the 4th best coach in the NFC East? /SBK92

    Vela: Joyner on our WRs

Keep in mind that Austin is like the "15th best" receiver in the NFC East according to one "expert"... That's all you really need to know.:sneak
