Anyone on this forum living in Texas, I highly encourage you to get out and support Ken Paxton in the run-off election. Early voting started today. Remember Cornyn never took a stand for anything conservative except when he was up for election or the Demoncrats held all the power and any legislation he was supporting had no chance of passing thus it was all for show. If he wins, he will go right back to his RINO ways.

My dad thinks he needs to vote for Cornyn because he heard Paxton had some affair or something, do you have any sources I could refer to in order to "coach him up" on why to vote for Paxton?

Do you think James Talafreako has a better chance of beating Paxton than Cornyn?

That's just a RINO and media talking point to bump Cornyn when his voting record shows him to be a true RINO.

He was against a border wall, was pro-amnesty, pro-Jim Comey, pro-Merrik Garland, pro-Lisa Monnaco and ant-Trump......and the list goes on. He has an "F" grade as a "conservative" Republican Senator. He only came out in support of the SAVE act when he realized his reelection was at stake. The real question is why would anyone vote for a RINO? The party must be gutted of these wretched backstabbers and Thune should be next.

Paxton is FAR more conservative than Cornyn, who is not even a real Republican.

And no, Talafreako has zero chance against Paxton. He has a far better chance against the rotted to the core Cornyn but he would probably still lose.

Most of the bad shit said about Paxton is lies like they say about Trump. It is all fabricated. This was done to try to take him out because he is effective and not a globalist puppet like Cornyn. Which is why we need him to win. I think whoever wins the run-off will beat the demonrat candidate although I am likely done voting for Cornyn ever again. As for things to show your dad? I do not know. You will no find it in a search engine without going through 10.000 pages. I heard most of it on podcast however I listed to so many of them I have no idea who or when said what but do remember hearing the story multiple times they were trying to frame Paxton to take him out.

I guarantee if Cornyn wins, he will go right back to being a Rino for the next 5 years never trying to do the right thing when the Republicans are in power but will slide back conservative in 2032 (the next election) and will do a ton of saber rattling and vote conservative when the Dems hold power in the Senate and anything he is pushing has ZERO chance of passing. People like him and Thune want no part of holding real power for the Republicans. They are happy to be the foil for the demonrats because they are just two sides of the same coin but will never do anything to take power away from the demonrats except during election years.

Unfortunately it is true that Paxton had an affair considering he had a press conference admitting to it.

I make decisions based on who I think will implement best policies and dont rule out folks for stuff like this but if given the choice it would be nice if he wasn't saddled with this.

Here's what AI cranked out, if anyone has anything good to add, please do

The decision to vote for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary typically centers on a preference for a more aggressive, populist, and combative approach to conservative governance.
Supporters of Ken Paxton highlight several key reasons for choosing him over John Cornyn:

Alignment with the MAGA Movement
  • Donald Trump's Endorsement: Paxton has the explicit backing of Donald Trump, who has endorsed him to challenge Cornyn. Voting for Paxton is seen as a direct alignment with the current leadership and direction of the national Republican Party.
  • Populist Mandate: Supporters view Paxton as a true representative of the America First movement, contrasting him with Cornyn, whom critics label as part of the traditional "establishment."

Aggressive Legal Strategy on Conservative Issues
  • Challenging the Federal Government: As Texas Attorney General, Paxton built his reputation on launching high-profile lawsuits against federal policies on immigration, environmental regulations, and healthcare. Supporters want that same litigious, uncompromising strategy brought to the U.S. Senate.
  • Border Security Legislation: Voters favoring Paxton trust him to advocate for stricter, more militarized federal border enforcement measures based on his legal battles over the Texas-Mexico border.

Dissatisfaction with Cornyn's Record
  • Bipartisan Compromises: Many conservative voters are frustrated with Cornyn's history of working across the aisle. Most notably, his role in crafting the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—a gun control measure passed after the Uvalde shooting—alienated a segment of the pro-Second Amendment base.
  • Perceived Insufficiency on Culture Wars: Critics argue that Cornyn has been too quiet or passive on high-profile cultural and social issues, whereas Paxton actively engages in legal warfare over these topics.

Proven Resilience Against Political Opponents
  • Survival of Impeachment: Supporters view Paxton's 2023 acquittal in his Texas Senate impeachment trial as proof of his resilience. To his base, his survival demonstrated that he was the target of a politically motivated "establishment" hit job, cementing his status as an anti-establishment fighter.
U.S. Senator John Cornyn has a long-standing reputation as a traditional institutionalist who frequently works across the aisle to pass legislation. While his supporters view this as pragmatic dealmaking, conservative primary challengers and critics point to several high-profile bills and votes where he sided or negotiated with Democrats as evidence of compromise: [1]

Major Legislation Passed with Democrats [1, 2]
  • The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (2022): Cornyn was the lead Republican negotiatoralongside Democrats to pass this major firearm legislation following the Uvalde school shooting. The bill enhanced background checks for buyers under 21, closed the "boyfriend loophole," and incentivized states to implement "red flag" laws.
  • The CHIPS and Science Act (2022): Cornyn voted for and helped shepherd this $250 billion industrial policy package through the Senate. While designed to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the U.S., conservative advocacy groups criticized it as corporate welfare.
  • Foreign Aid and National Security Supplementals (2024): Cornyn voted in favor of the Senate Foreign Aid Supplemental package, joining Democrats to secure billions of dollars in foreign and military assistance for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
  • The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (2021): Cornyn was one of the Senate Republicans who voted to advance the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package heavily championed by the Biden administration.
  • The Fix NICS Act (2018): Following the Sutherland Springs church shooting, Cornyn teamed up with Democratic Senator Chris Murphy to pass legislation designed to ensure federal agencies accurately report criminal history records to the national background check system. [1, 2, 4, 5, 6]

Federal Spending and Budget Agreements
  • Government "Minibus" and Omnibus Spending Packages: Cornyn has routinely voted in favor of large, bipartisan federal funding bills—such as the FY24 Minibus packages—to avert government shutdowns, joining Democrats to pass budgets that many fiscal conservatives argue add heavily to the national debt.
  • The Debt Ceiling Suspension Agreement (2023): Cornyn voted to pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act, a bipartisan deal negotiated between House leadership and the Biden administration to temporarily lift the national debt limit. [1, 2, 3]
Senator John Cornyn does not oppose the SAVE Act; he strongly supports it and is an original co-sponsor of the legislation. [1, 2, 3]
Cornyn's active backing of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act includes: [1]

Co-Sponsorship and Legislative Support [1]
  • Original Co-Sponsor: In February 2026, Cornyn teamed up with Senator Mike Lee to formally introduce the SAVE America Act in the U.S. Senate.
  • Voting Record: On March 17, 2026, Cornyn formally voted in favor of the motion to proceed with the bill, advancing it to the Senate floor for debate.
  • Floor Advocacy: Cornyn has delivered multiple speeches on the Senate floor defending the bill, arguing that requiring proof of citizenship to register and a photo ID to vote represents a common-sense safeguard for election integrity. [, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Reversing Stance on the Filibuster to Pass It [1]
  • Abolishing Rules for the Bill: In a notable shift, Cornyn published a March 2026 op-ed declaring he would support ending the Senate filibuster—a 60-vote procedural hurdle he historically defended—specifically to circumvent Democratic opposition and pass the SAVE Act. [1, 2]

Campaign Context with Paxton
  • Primary Runoff Leverage: Cornyn’s aggressive push for the legislation comes amid a heated primary runoff campaign against Ken Paxton. Paxton previously stated he might drop out of the race if Congress successfully passed the voter ID mandate, prompting Cornyn to ramp up pressure on the Senate to advance
