So Pickens agent David Malagueta spoke to Jeruh an hour before the draft and let the Cowboys know that he would sign the franchise tag

He has since missed the meeting to sign the franchise tag, and now Pickens has missed the start of OTA’s.

If that was the plan all along (which is fine if it was) then why inform the Cowboys that your client has agreed to sign the tag?

It’s a bunch of BS. And even worse is now Overshown has signed with this same agent who represented Micah, now Pickens, and will be representing Overshown in his upcoming negotiations

He didn't really have a deadline. I thought they said he was just going to sign it, I don't believe they said when.

I'm sure they are going to do all they can to get a multi yr deal, but frankly he doesn't have much leverage. I'm quite sure his agent has talked to many teams about what his value is and they know. The Cowboys also made it clear that not one team called to even offer a low pick deal to acquire him. Eventually the agent is going to just tell him he has to play on the tag this yr and then be in a better position to get a long term deal next yr. The Cowboys have no cap issue paying him the 1yr franchise tag number but the number is higher for next yr.

As for Overshown, it doesn't matter who his agent is if he cannot stay on the field. Right now he's been in the league for 3 yrs and has missed considerable time every yr. Until he shows he is close to 100% and plays in most (if not all) the games he has absolutely no leverage either. He has a lot riding on the 2026 season because if he stays healthy and plays like he did in 2024 he can earn a big payday somewhere. (if not here)

I heard on one of the podcasts that the Cowboys had a meeting scheduled when he was supposed to come in and sign the tag and that he didn’t show.

Haven't heard that, although some took Adam Shefter's reports and ran with them and now we've found out none of what he reported was true. Will do some digging to see what I can find.

Todd Archer's reporting on this has been the most accurate so far and he said all along that he only agreed to sign the tag, he never said when. Showing up for camp is the main thing and the cutoff to sign a multi yr deal is July 15th I believe, at that point he has to play on the tag.

Again they don't have much leverage. The Cowboys arnt going to simply rescind the tag and nobody wants to trade for him. If he holds out and misses games, it's just going make his market that much worse for next yr in team's eyes.

i think you'd be setting yourself up for failure if you re-sign pickens to a long term deal

with pickens gone, you will need to find someone to target besides ceedee

i dont think ferg is that guy and i doubt that flournoy is that guy, at least for right now

Chance for people to hear from new LB Scot Symons. Was DC at SMU and is very highly regarded. Might be someone we don't get to keep for long unless perhaps the team sees him as a potential successor to Christian Parker after we win the next two Super Bowls with the Doomsday III defense.
