Staubach & Dorsett, dressed to the nines aboard a flight to New Orleans, as the Cowboys traveled to Super Bowl XII. A few days later, they'd defeat the Denver Broncos 27-10, to win their second championship in franchise history.635120363_1465267574958220_4940514910360405653_n.jpg

One of the all-time great draft grand larceny deals ever. How we got Tony D

To acquire the #2 overall pick in 1977 (used to draft Tony Dorsett), the Dallas Cowboys traded four 1977 draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks: their own first-round pick (14th overall), along with three second-round picks. The deal, approved on May 3, 1977, was a major draft-day move for Dallas.

  • 1977 First-Round Pick: #14 overall (used by Seattle to draft offensive lineman Steve August).
  • 1977 Second-Round Pick (originally Dallas): Used to draft linebacker Terry Beeson.
  • 1977 Second-Round Pick (originally San Diego): Used to draft offensive lineman Tom Lynch.
  • 1977 Second-Round Pick (initially for wide receiver Duke Ferguson): One of the acquired picks was later traded back to Dallas, while others were used for linebacker Terry Beeson and center Geoff Reece.
