We tried it. He's a one trick pony in the pros.

Parsons is only useful if you have a good lead in the 4th quarter and you turn your front seven loose. close out the game. If you're behind teams just run right at him because he can't play the run. He can't do anything in coverage either.
He was moved to DE the 2nd game of his career due to some injuries at DE.

He was drafted with the intent to play him at LB.

I don't remember Parsons playing any MLB in training camp, preseason or his 1st game (v Tampa).

Vander Esch was still here and starting at MLB then. I think Parsons lined up at weakside OLB in week one and then in week two (at Chargers) he was moved to DE due to injuries.

I'd have to dig up my old draft stuff, but I am pretty sure everyone had him rated as an OLB.

The more I think back to it now. I dont think he exclusively played DE his entire rookie yr. I think the rotated there (he did start there week two that season)

He did play some LB during the season too and I think mostly played DE in pass situations.

He actually had a couple games with double digit tackles that yr, and it's still the only double digit tackle games of his career.

But I don't think he played MLB, am pretty sure LVE was still playing MLB.

He didnt play MLB here
I thought he'd play at MLB when he was drafted because I thought they'd want to protect LVE and put him outside. He was long, like a DE. That's why I thought he'd be "Sean Lee's replacement". Both coming out of Penn State, both MLBs

I think that was the plan but they "accidentally" found out what a great pass rusher he was and moved him there.

Correct. Because they tried him at it and he sucked butt.
Incorrect, they never played him there.

He played LB quite well actually, but he was a "special" pass rusher and they wanted to use him there as much as possible.

This is obviously just a snapshot video, but this is from Parsons rookie season.

On the plays where he doesn't line up as a down DE he is usually one of two LB's on the field. I haven't went through the entire video but there aren't many plays where there's a true MLB in the formation because of the way Quinn chose to line up. There are clearly examples of where he is a "outside" LB though.

No in any games that's right. Getting mashed up by our scout team in practice was all they needed to see. And you see it today. Want to run the ball? Run it right at #1. He can't shed blockers and he really doesn't want contact.

Did you attend the camp in Oxnard? It's odd that he can't shed blockers as a MLB. For example, on the "sack" that he got on Dak, he basically gave Steele a stiff arm and went around him. Of course it was against Steele, so there's that.

But how does he get around so many OTs if he can't shed blockers? Isn't it basically the same skill? He's even done it from the DT position at times.

When you're Mike they come at you in many ways. He doesn't have the skillset or desire to play Mike. He sucks when he wants to. Which is, mostly. GB is finding that out.
